Copdock & Old Ipswichian Cricket Club 2nd XI v Easton on Sat 17 Jun 2017 at 1pm
Copdock & Old Ipswichian Cricket Club Lost by 3 wickets

Match report This week Copdock welcomed Easton to the Oval. Having started strongly Easton had faltered in recent weeks and the Twosaders were looking to improve a chequered home record. Hope further soared when it was revealed that the fatter, older, hairy Percival would not be present in the Easton ranks. A shuffle of the pack saw a debut for Sam Edmond and a return of King Richard Sexton and Jason Pembroke who replaced the absent Nose and Teeth.

With the sun shining on the serene setting of Old London Road on a delicious day the pressure was on Ironfist to win the toss as he bailed out of the warm up (the highlight of which was a quite breath-taking team goal from the old 'uns as they dispatched the young 'uns in walking football). For once Ironfist failed to disappoint (at least that's what Sue said) and he duly delivered a successful toss and elected to bat.

Sharpe and Gravell strolled out to start the innings off and soon enough Sharpe was strolling back, his day done have nicked off in the third over for 4. In the face of some disciplined bowling and fielding Percvial the younger, more intelligent and Gravell began the rebuilding process. By the time Percival was coaxed into chipping to cover in the 19th Over Copdock were decently placed at 78 for 2. Kaarl Borey, the new batsmen helped move things along with and increased assured looking Archie before a 'brain fart' from Gravell saw him slog one to mid wicket the ball after he brought up his half century.

The recently arrived Reg soon had his foot down on the accelerator taking 18 off one Green over! As he fell just short of what would have been a well deserved half century Flodock were well placed with Snorey reaching 50*. Edmond and Jenkin provided some late blows too and the total of 224 for 5 of the allotted overs looked competitive, if potentially a few short of what was possible given that wickets had fallen at regular intervals which meant constant rebuilding.

Easton response started in positive fashion with boundaries coming from both ends with regularity. Both openers chanced their arms and were largely successful. The positive intent continued towards the first drinks break when East JR made the breakthrough in his first over. Jenkin soon dismissed Green and Ironfist, with his worst ball of the day, got Copdocks 3rd wicket. Easton remained well ahead of the rate though as the impressive Sayer and experienced Kimmerling propelled them towards the finish line as Flopdock struggled to build pressure. Jenkin eventually got one through the defence of Kimmerling and JP and East JR made further breakthroughs to reignite Flopdock's flagging hopes. As East ran out of overs Sexy came on to finish up from the pavilion end and as the last over started 4 were needed for victory. A sterling Sexton effort meant one was required from the last ball and ultimately Sayer proved up to the task and pushed the ball back down the ground for the winning runs. A great game of cricket and an excellent chase from Easton. Copdock can reflect on a spirited display but let down by a poor start to their bowling effort, some lapses in the field, and perhaps a total a few runs light.

Next week a long trek to Lakenheath to look forward to. Lets get back on the Win Bus.
