Match report

The Copdock win bus rolled in to bottom of the table Coggy with high hopes of maintaining the winning start to the season. The absent Thomas, Gravell and Wooton replaced by Fergus, Cuff and a first outing of the season for Sumo Nel. Sexton and Jenkin switch roles (makes a change from swapping with Nose) in a much changed line up.

The overcast conditions, gloomy weather and pitch stuck on the edge of the square with a 32 yard boundary on one side were perhaps omens of what was to come. As Ironfist won another toss (honest) Reuben let in an absolute howler in the warm up but still mnaged to end on the winning side and shortly strode out to bat with Nel. Things started brilliantly, Nel hit his first three balls to (and over) the fence and Reuben pulled his way to a rapid 30. In next to no time we were 80 without loss. In usual fayre Reuben played over a straight one before Nose refused to dirty his new bat and instead kicked his first ball and was sent back to the hutch. Kaaarrl and Nel responding by going on the attack! the run rate never went under a run a ball as Karl racked up 50 and Nel flew past 100. Both fell in quick succession and the rest of the team fell trying to push on with the rate as Copdock amassed 246 for 6 off a reduced 40 overs.

Talk at tea was that on a difficult looking surface we had enough. But oh dear. Things went badly from here. Chokedock started off by serving up some buffet that would have been better placed on the tea table. Coggy got of to a flyer, tucking into everything loose and wiping effectively to the short boundary. Flopdock gave them a leg up by spurning chance after chance. East (JR) dropped a clanger, Regulator Hollis another and not to be left out Reuben pulled out a customary spill to a 'spinner'. When East JR finally held on to one at slip off Nose and Nel caught opener McLeay for 66 off Sex bomb, Flopdock looked back in it. As Laurel and Hardy (Eek and Nose) bowled out the drops kept coming, Nose with one that caused whoops of delight and derision for the watching Coggy faithful and team, and Coggy kept in the game. With 5 overs left 54 was still needed but courtesy of some lusty blows to the short boundary Coggy got this down to 11 needed off two. Just asit looked like Flopdock could force victory another crucial catch went down, followed by a strong unsuccessful appeal for a catch behind and ultimately a Chinese cut for 4 seemed an appropriate way for the match to end with Coggy deserved victors.

Much improvement required. Ironfist was not pleased. He's confirmed that TRONGS IS STILL ON but that partners are off the menu. More performances like this and we'll be sharing a pack of pork scratchings in the car park.

Sachin Sombrero - Nel. Those first three balls! 119 runs!

Carl Hooper Blooper - to be honest it could have been nearly anyone and I can't remember who got it so I say Ironfist.
