Copdock & Old Ipswichian Cricket Club 2nd XI v Tuddenham on Sat 14 May 2016 at 1pm
Copdock & Old Ipswichian Cricket Club Won by 46 runs
Match report
The Win Bus rolled back to the Oval after last weeks hard fought victory at Mistley, hoping to make lighter work of Div 3 new boys Tuddenham. A changed line up saw the return of Dan Leggett, Gravell and given Ironfists Trongs promise, a surprise first outing of the year for the hungry Stephen Gaukins. Out went Hoppy and Sexton to the ones and Bhatt to 'study' for his 18th attempt at GCSE's.
The warm up was preceded by Captain Underwoods New Trainers being revealed, probably only 50 years too young for him. The warm up itself saw East Jr in the young 'uns for the first time since 2007 but combining with Leggett to see the young ones romp to victory 10-1. The usual toss failure followed for Blunderwood and Flopdock were inserted on a good looking pitch. Predictably Wooton disappeared as the umpires and scorer were decided. Gravell and Sharpe got things off to a good start before both fell in the space of 3 balls with the score on 43 off 8 overs. Nose and Thomas began the rebuild and as the 50 partnership came up Nose suffered a mental breakdown and was cleaned up for 19. Kaarl and Hugh advanced the score further with Thomas finding the boundary with successive scoops. Disappointingly Gravell was too busy showing Alys how it all worked in the scorebox to acknowledge the furious signalling of the umpires. With the score on 163 of 39 Kaarl perished and was followed shortly after by Hugh for a well constructed 72, leaving The Regulator Hollis and Dan Leggett to get the total over 200. Worth making note of Reg's calamitous first ball where a Klinsmann dive and a shout of "yes" were followed by a crawl back into the crease and a "no" and an outrageous attempt at cheating from Sharpe off the last ball.
Over a tea of suspicious looking chicken Blunderwood sorted out the Sharpe cheating whilst the team reflected on a score of 201. For the second week it was arguably 20 to 30 short of where we could have got to but should be competitive. With a near gale force wind blowing down the hill it wasn't much of a surprise than Ironfist was short of volunteers to bowl from the Hotel End. Asserting his Iron Will against Thomas strenuous objections meant that Nose loped in downhill and picked up his customary early wicket courtesy of a rare Wooton snaffle behind the poles. The hoped for stroll to victory was slow to appear however as Tuddeham put up resistance and with the talented Cross brothers still to come the result was anything but assured. Thomas toiled uphill with no luck and was replaced by Ironfist with similar results. When East Junior replaced Ironfist the tide began to change as the Chuckle Brothers picked up some wickets at regular intervals, including both Cross's. Captain Richard Cross to an excellent snaffle by young Dan Leggett. Ironfist returned to pick up two more wickets and at 100 for 9 the match looked as good as over. Indeed had Gauke Handles held onto one of three chances the match could have been wrapped up. To their credit Tuddenham battled well passing 150 and East Snr was required to replace the unlucky Leggett eventually bringing things to a close with his fourth wicket.
In the end a comfortable enough victory but still room for improvement with bat, ball and certainly in the field.
Sachin Sombrero Winner = Hugh Thomas for a match winning 72
Carl Hooper Blooper/Gunder Blunder = Graham Underwood. Against some stiff opposition Ironfist's misfields were enough to see him to victory again
