Copdock & Old Ipswichian Cricket Club 1st XI v Maldon on Sat 24 May 2008 at 1pm
Copdock & Old Ipswichian Cricket Club Won by 93 runs

Match report Well after last week’s debacle against Frinton, the team were ordered to arrive in Shirt and tie. Only Nose and new boy Ed “ Brad from Neighbours “ Barratt did. Reuben arrived in his usual cocktail of outrageously baggy green trousers and garish shirt combo….. Poor!

Chris, I played at Lords, started and excellent day all round for him by arriving with the new kit. It’s feckin’ great. Cuffy saw it and wants the same for the second team squad in yellow with pink trim. It’s now being looked into!

Maldon won the toss and stuck Copdock in on a greenish, but firm looking track. They said to Eek that they new he would have bowled, they were wrong. Copdock got off to a poor start with Second team bound Sharpe out for 2. Reuben needs a start and then I’m sure he’ll come good… On the plus side, his fielding was electric! Jervis arrived at number three and owed the team a lot. He’s been below par this season and he knows it! Well he came good and got a sparkling 50 odd before he was typically caught at deep mid wicket! Jenko meanwhile continued to spank the ball to all parts. He even hooked a six as he sowed off to his fancy woman in the crowd. He was out for 88 and missed out on a ton. On a more critical note he was out caught behind for the 4 game in a row, which shows a poor technique. He may be able to get away with it for Sudbourne hall, but not in proper cricket! Runs continued to flow as Nel and Nose came and went, sacrificing themselves, selflessly for the good of the team, in search of quick runs. Davey fell for the second duck on the trot and needs a score to boost his confidence. This left the Minor counties trophy winner and Brad Willis at the crease. Chris smashed it to all parts for 77 not out and Willis also smashed a big six in reaching 15 not out. Copdock finished with 273 for 6.

Maldon’s reply got off to a shaky start as Nose steamed in up the hill into the wind and got a wicket in his first over, Jervis taking an excellent catch, at pace in the gully. Deon struck next and Nose then snaffled the pro and then the next as Maldon were 50-4. Chris Swallow was allowed to pick up some cheap wickets after the damage had been done and finished with 5 for 43. And a very good day at the office! Maldon finished on 181 all out… 20 pts for Copdock and no shirt and tie next week!

The future’s bright, the future’s Copdock.
