Match report Copdock’s Great Whites bite back!

A Shiver of sharks could not have been more appropriate on Tuesday evening at Chilton Fields. After an hour of ‘will we won’t we’ the downpours eased enough for the Stowmarket ground staff to remove the covers and both teams to agree on playing. Captain Oli Conway maintained the teams 100% record of losing the toss and being placed into bat. Brown and Tocca led the way, scoring and running well as the Copdock batting line up clocked up the runs consistently throughout the innings. Green and Quinton provided the crowd with an entertaining display of drop and run combined with IPL stroke play during their 4 overs. The Sharks amassed a healthy total of 323-2.

After a brief drinks break the Sharks took to the field to give their best ever bowling and fielding display. Given the cold and damp conditions each player put their body on the line to stop every shot, back up team mates and hold onto every single catch. Green and Holloway both taking difficult catches behind the wicket keeper. Monty Brown deserves a special mention behind the stumps, snaffling every delivery that passed the bat with great ease.

Bowling plaudits are shared around with all players bowling consistently, Alex Dunning, Thomas King and Charlie Holloway walked away with impressive figures.
The Sharks team spirit was typified in the last over with Stowmarket needing 100 runs to win Dunning and Puckey both dived full length to prevent boundaries. Stowmarket were restricted to 223-9 losing regular wickets as they chased a high score.

Thanks as ever to umpiring and scoring helpers. The biggest thank you however, goes to Stowmarket Cricket Club for the efforts made to ensure the boys got to play some cricket.
