Match report A small ground on two sides and quite large on the other 2 and a green track that said win the toss and put them in.
We duly lost the toss and surprisingly Galleywood elected to bat, which should have told us something as the green track turned out to be a road. Inspection of their scorebook suggested that a par score was about 260.
We started brightly with Ashwin bowling tidily if slightly legside and Toryn reduced to half pace after pulling his back in his first over. However this did bring the benefit of much greater control resulting in a very tidy spell and 3 wickets. On a very bumpy outfield, we fielded fairly poorly (with the notable exception of Karl and Cuffy) shelling 3 catches and gifting several runs through miss fields. Realistically we should have been having tea early with them all out for 170, but as a result they batted out the overs and got to 213 for 9, well below par, but more than we should have let them get. As ever with Essex sides there was plenty of unnecessary sledging both from the boundry when we were fielding and the middle when we were batting.
After tea Archie and Ethan set to work and both batted immaculately neither giving a single chance as they stayed with the required rate for the first 10 overs and then gradually accelerated as they both passed 50.
From there with their eyes well and truly in, Ethan played a supporting role to Archie who created carnage hitting 6 sixes and losing 5 balls on his way to his first senior century.
The sledging long since silenced, the non cricket entertainment was provided by Cuffy ripping off his pads as we closed in on the winning score to ensure that if a wicket did go down he could not get another duck and therefore stay in the race with Gunders for the club duck bat.
