Copdock & Old Ipswichian Cricket Club 2nd XI v East Bergholt on Sat 01 Aug 2015 at 1pm
Copdock & Old Ipswichian Cricket Club Lost by 5 wickets

Match report A disappointing day at the office for the Copdock and OI Two Counties 1st XI as they went down to a 5 wicket defeat to East Bergholt which meant their local rivals leapfrogged them in the Div 3 table.
After the disappointing call off by Bury St Edmunds last week, when virtually all the other games in the TC Championship were played, and particularly as the Div 3 XI had started to put together a sequence of wins, they regrouped at Copdock Oval, a place where the curator isn’t terrified of a bit of overnight rain.
Unavailability in the EAPL 1st XI meant that gnarled old pro East was required to get up somewhat earlier than he has become accustomed to on a Saturday morning and make the journey to West Suffolk. Neither Gravell (Archie and Hugo) were able to play, Reg was on holiday, as were Nel and Felix and Dr Watson had to work which was a shame as his good friend Holmes was in the opposition line up.
Reuben was finally able to get back onto a cricket field after 3 long weeks, and Ethan and Sexy also returned to the starting XI.
For the first time in years, it seemed, Underwood won the toss and chose to bat on the usual belter of a track hoping that the batters could post an imposing total to defend.
Reuben and Adam got us off to a solid if unspectacular start against some tight bowling and with the score on 32 Adam tried to pierce the infield only to cloth the ball to extra cover. Karl and Reuben moved the score on to over the hundred mark before both fell in quick succession trying to up the scoring rate, closely followed by JP who feathered a short ball through to the keeper. With overs running out Hodge now moved through the gears hitting several classy boundaries, and taking 18 off one over from leading wicket taker Philpot before falling just short of a deserved half century. Jenko also added valuable runs until he was well caught on the square leg boundary and it looked like the Dock would finish some way short of 200 as the last over arrived with 181 on the scoreboard. Ethan had different ideas making full use of the crease to hit five successive fours and take the score to 202/6 at tea.
Bergholt also made a solid start to their innings until Ashwin got to work and removed both openers, Foster bowled by a trademark inswinger and Pickford edging through to young keeper Marston who made no mistake. After the early inroads Gedny and Hayward got to work. Despite excellent and luckless spells from both Ashwin and Jenko they maintained a healthy run rate, taking the score past the hundred.
After Gedny departed, caught by JP pulling a Bhattman half tracker, Hayward continued to put away any four ball before he also departed, bowled by the Bhattman with the Copdock total in reach. There was still time for Sir Anthony to take his first Copdock wicket, before Holmes struck the winning runs with a mishit over extra cover.
So some good performances but not quite enough to get us past the winning post in a match played in a good spirit.
Thanks go to Tim Percival for helping out as sub fielder after Hodge had to leave early.
Brian Lara Tiara – Ethan for his last over demolition derby
Tommy Cooper Blooper – Gunder for not losing the toss.
