Match report 2s Slump Continues !

Copdock 2s made the trip to Clacton to face opponents who had thrashed them only five days earlier and, despite an improved performance, were again defeated by a team enjoying a good run of form.

After winning the toss the home side were invited to bat first against a Copdock side showing 5 changes from Bank Holiday Mondays line up.
From the off it was clear Clacton were looking to attack against the new ball pairing of Capt Matt Wareing and Clive Kyangungu. Both openers rode their luck and a couple of chances went begging before Matt comprehensively bowled Facey. The Clacton batters continued to take advantage of anything slightly loose and kept up a scoring rate of 5 an over, with Nel looking particularly impressive.
Clive finally managed a double strike, in the 18th over, having Asghar and then Pathinarage caught within 3 balls of each other.
By this time Matt, had been replaced by John East who bowled with his usual accuracy, economy and little luck.
Brad the lad Mason took over at the playing field end and was also unlucky as several miscued shots landed either just short of or between fielders.
Nel and Chamberlain continued to tick over the scoring and it was not until Matt returned for his second spell in the 37th over that another wicket fell, Chamberlain clean bowled by a goodun’ from the young left arm seamer, followed very next ball by Sheikh LBW for a duck.
East also managed to get himself a wicket when he had Nel well caught by stand in wicket keeper Ethan Wright.
Clacton closed their innings on 211/6, a reasonable but not huge total.
The Dock openers, Taylor and Wright got us off to a solid if unspectacular start before Taylor mistimed a drive and was caught in the covers. Unfortunately this was the start of (yet another) Copdock collapse as we subsided from 36/0 to 52/4. Fortunately Clive played an attacking cameo to get us past the 100 mark before he fell to the spin of Sheikh.
The 2s were finally all out for 121 and on the end of a 90 run defeat. For Clacton Kirk picked up 6 wickets and Sheikh, 3.
All round improvement is needed.
