Sadly the season didn’t quite get off to the start we had all hoped for as we exited the cup far too early away at Easton. Missing a few key players we still put out a strong side but it wasn’t enough.

Batting first, we struggled to 92 for the loss of three wickets in our allotted overs. It would need a massive effort in the field to restrict Easton. Although we continued to take wickets throughout the match, with four overs to go Easton didn’t need too many to finish us off which is when the match suddenly got quite tight.

More wickets tumbled leaving Easton needing 6 from two overs with three wickets in hand. A tight bowling spell in the 19th over only went for two runs. Four from six needed. A wicket first ball! 9th man in, a no ball - Easton scamper an additional single. 2 from 4 followed by a dot ball.

The next ball… a dubious LBW decision brings in the retired Easton batsman who has knocked us all over the park. Sadly the fairytale finish ended at that point as Easton clipped the ball down the leg side to run two and secure passage to Round 2.

Highlights of the match included some great catches – notably Edward Hughes, and some very tight bowling spells by Donald Mlambo and Joe Martin both ending with identical bowling stats of 4-0-11-2, Jack Spinner 4-0-17-2 and Josh Bull 3.4-0-24-2. Top scorers in the batting department were Tom Borrett 20no, Harry Knights 16 and James Gray 12.
