Copdock Carnegie Team:
Toryn Whitehead (Capt), Connor Betts (VC), Tom Borrett (+), Charlie Kent, James Gray, Harry Knights, Luke Martin, Donald Mlambo, Jack Spinner, Joe Martin and Josh Bull.

An impressive all round team display saw Copdock cruise to a 9 wicket win over probably the leagues toughest opponents Woolpit. After a steady start, wickets tumbled regularly throughout the Woolpit innings as each of the Copdock bowlers built the pressure with strings of dot balls.

Only the Gale boys managed to score runs to keep the scoreboard ticking over, Jack Spinner seeing of opener B Gale followed quite quickly by the stumping of Woolpits No2, again off the bowling of Jack Spinner.

Connor Betts and Josh Bull bowled tightly picking up a wicket each whilst Donald Mlambo picked up three wickets in his second spell of two overs.

Ending their innings on 99 for 7, the run-chase was seen as do-able and a quick turn around saw Charlie Kent (on club debut) opening Copdock’s chase alongside Tom Borrett.

After 5 overs Carnegie were 42 for no wicket and cruising. A shed-load of extras was helping the cause, but both openers were batting steadily and sensibly. A change of bowling by Woolpit bringing on two slower bowlers seemed at first to be a bit of a gamble, but with rapidly fading light Charlie Kent was c&b by Dinkele on 15.

Toryn Whitehead came to the crease and after a few more tight overs Tom Borrett started to put the foot down accelerating the score rapidly. He retired on 31 no – with a glorious straight drive that screamed ‘straight back from whence it had came’ for four.

With four over to spare Toryn and Harry Knights tickled off the remaining runs with aplomb to set up what would be a club double over Woolpit away from home.

Man of the Match went to Tom Borrett.
