Match report Treaty of Harefields

The mighty Copdock Crusaders travelled to the Home of Coggeshall this weekend looking for a win to move them up the table and back into contention in the league one battle.

Chris Swallow signed the peace treaty before the Toss with “ Snapper “ Stockton an event witnessed by both umpires an uneasy air settled as this treaty’s validity depended on both East’s and Jimmy Reece behaving for the day, No glass in sawdust or spectators abusing the Copdock team. I personally gave it 10 mins.

Copdock won the toss and would bat – on an unfamiliar looking Coggy track.... Ed Pope had answered the call and driven from Cambridge at the last minute to play....a true legend, this upset Thomas hugely!

“ Harmy “ Opened the bowling and had Pope ducking and diving, whislt Sharpe prowled the non strikers end itching to get to face some half trackers... Pope refused to turn the strike over and Reuben was out frustrated at the other end, following a outswinger and nicking off...back to Sharpe of old.

Popey then nicked off too and Pidge was “undone by extra bounce “ and hit a pull up in the air and Copdock were 50-3...This left Nel and Cawkwell to do some rebuilding – Nel was typically bullish with anything full and rattled along nicely to 30 before being bowled. Jed continued to stroke the ball all around the rabbit hole infested outfield and with the extra input from Thomas the score began to rattle along.

Jed was simply superb and was finally out for 94... if anyone deserved a Ton it was Jed... an excellent innings and a surprise to all after his duck last week... However hopefully this is the turning point. 45, 0, 94 last 3 innings and he looked a proper player...”Gun “ in Sharpey’s words!

Through Jed and Huge a score of 200 finished up on 231 ( with Nose and Jenko adding a few with power hitting at the end ). Oh, I missed Ashwin’s leave bowled middle and leg !!! Poor!

Copdock were happy with this... And set the tone ( after a huddle ) in the field... Nose and Jenko opened up, Jed too tied to bowl ). Jimmy Reece, pleasant all day, then ran out the other opener by taking a quick single to nose on the 45, nope!! Out !

Nose, who will never take another Div 1 wicket – bowled his first 7 overs for 9 and Jenko kept it tight at the other end....

Cogg were always behind the rate as Pidge and Eek got to work....finding turn and bounce they sliced through Cogg with Pidge taking 5 and Eek 4... a big winning Margin, a miss-field from Sharpe, Jed trying to cheat were the highlights...

The Copdock Juggernaut rolls into Mistley next week!

The future’s bright, the future’s Copdock!
