Copdock & Old Ipswichian Cricket Club Lost by 10 wickets

Match report Fathers Day Massacre.
The day started poorly when the captain turned up. Copdock were then doomed. He won the toss and batted and things looked rosy at 110-2 when the captain was dismissed for 63. The innings started in frankly bizarre fashion, with the captain taking a single off the first ball, followed by Graham Underwood playing and missing 3 times in a row, with as much grace as a Bobby Jones drive in the 1934 Open Championship, out the next ball, missed a straight one. Anne of Cleaves!!! Hugo Gravell came to the crease, using two bats stuck together, but must have pleased the umpire as he was graciously given not out after smashing the cover off one to wide third man, before the keeper dived and took it. Remarkable. The captain stroked his way to 63, before throwing it all away, in Jervis-like fashion, caught long off, to a 9 year old. Gravell followed soon after, attempting to paddle-sweep one through mid on, Richardson's first. This began the rot, 8 wickets for 34, truly poor. Tom Davey, had a car accident on his way to his fourth Copdock game in 7 years, although when he did arrive, he amazed all with his array of one handed on drives. Tom came and went fairly quickly which was frankly all that could have been expected, 18 was a bonus. Chris Sparrow was to become Richardson's 1000th wicket for Maldon, a truly magnificent achievement, congratulations from all at Copdock, but it happened to clash with the same day Steve Gauke ate his 1000th pork pie during service for Copdock, equally meritable. Cowdrey made his return on fathers day after a long term webbing injury, but need not have brought his bat to the game as he missed his first two balls and the third was LBW. All in all 3 batsmen making double figures wasn't the strongest effort.
Into tea we went, with good memories of the cheeseboard during the same fixture last year. We weren't disappointed with Boursin and Red Leicester, with home made scotch eggs and jam scones all were catered for. Really, if the square and outfield were improved it may be a rival to the Copdock Oval in terms of facilities.
Copdock came to field, with some hopes, these were heightened as Wright, bowled with "gas" as the youngsters would say. He allowed the captain to set attacking fields, 4 slips and a gully might have been a little excessive looking back, but C&OI certainly needed to take wickets. Underwood's bowling unlike his batting was with control, however there was touches of Catherine Howard, but it certainly wasn't Google. Gauke bowled pap. Gravell was unable to look really threatening, but finds it hard to get mentally prepared without an australian to bowl at. The captain bowled the five best overs of his life, but was still wicketless, Graham topped his excellent day with a drop at cover. Muckle came on and tried hard, too hard perhaps when he bowled one ball which nearly hit Gully, and nearly died when coker absolutely crunched one back at him!
Copdock didnt take a wicket and left the game with 2 points, a pretty piss poor return.
Personal memories of the day were the youngun getting hit in the box off ethan and Tom Davey's truly poor diving in the field.
Happy Fathers Day!
