Match report The PDQ season got off to an excellent start with a convincing win over Wivenhoe.

Thanks to excellent support from the 1st XI squad we were able to field a pretty strong team that dominated the match from start to finish. Despite the poor weather leading up to the match the pitch was excellent and it was no surprise when Wivenhoe won the toss and opted to bat first.

They have clearly been watching the 20/20 world cup with interest as Pulford tried to launch James East everywhere, inevitably he was out in the first over!! The Wivenhoe innings never got going with all the Copdock bowlers keeping it tight. Jenko in particular produced the ridiculous figures of 8 over, 5 maidens, 3 for 5... It would have been 4 for if Nose had not dropped a very simple chance at slip (sorry James, it was not travelling, and it was not at "that difficult height"...!!).

Wivenhoe finally reached a very modest 126 off their 40 overs, a score which always looked well below par. And so it proved. Sharpe and Burch M opened the innings and got things off to a good start before Reuben inevitably slashed a wide one and was caught behind. Burchy then got the best ball of the day and it was left to Scott Harvey and Stuart Macnamara to finish the game.

Scott batted with in his normal assured way and looks set to score a stack load of PDQ runs this season. Macca, whilst perhaps not so elegant, was equally effective and swiped a quick fire 30 not out. Game over, 20 points, top of the league.

So an excellent start to the season. The challenge now is to win the next couple of games before the proper PDQ captain (Hugh Thomas) gets back from Uni and messes it all up...
