Copdock & Old Ipswichian Cricket Club Lost by 4 wickets

Match report Had a good game over at Fram. It says what we already knew about the pitch that the lowest score was 29 in our total of 320 for 4 dec. Ed Pope was in majestic form elegantly stroking anything that came his way, until he got to 88, realised that a century would be expensive and contrived to get an inside edge on a wide legside delivery and thence off his inner thigh and onto the stumps. Shame, we could have done with the drinks. Guests Sam Connolly and Chris Bell scored 44 and 66 respectively and the Bursar chipped in with 46no.

Adam Secret bowled with pace and troubled the batsmen but was unlucky not to get a wicket. No such problem for the Doc though, who was rejuvenated by having the responsibility of opening the bowling and provided the early breakthrough. Unfortunately that was the end of his success as Bell of all people dropped a comfy catch in the gulley to leave him with 1 for 64 from 9 overs. The Bursar was feeling that he had massively overdone the declaration as the Q's batsmen seemed to feel 320 was beyond them and reached the last 20 overs still 186 runs short. Keeping the field open enabled them to continue to accumulate as Halliday scored a hundred that didn't quite put us to sleep but was certainly overshadowed by chipper knock of 60 from a Culford 15 year old left-hander - or was he 14? Certainly smaller than Halliday anyway. So they got to the last 5 overs with 70 still needed and it was then that we made a big mistake. We got a run-out. This brought to the wicket Spencer V-Chorlton. Spencer was tired from having bowled 30 overs of legspin and had announced to his side that he was going to block it out. His defensive shot turned out to be a four; he scored 61 not out in 18 balls, including a six off the penultimate ball from the Cat to give them 17 off the over and victory.

As a result the Bursar has been sacked as skipper and Ed Pope will captain next year.

It did make them very very happy.

Cheers

Peter
