Copdock & Old Ipswichian Cricket Club Under 13 Dragons v Woolpit U13 on Fri 05 Jun 2015 at 6pm
Copdock & Old Ipswichian Cricket Club Lost by 5 runs

Match report After early morning thunder storms it was to everybody's delight that the sun came out and we welcomed our old friends and rivals Woolpit to the Oval. With the u11's also at home, and the bar open it was a great night.

On the pitch the Dragons produced a much improved performance, but went down narrowly by 5 runs as Skipper Stace tried in vain to hit the last ball for 6.

Wining the toss we bowled first, Stace started well, but Mexome was not at his best and lecompte punished him on the leg side. lecompte enjoyed 3 lifes before being bowled by Stace. The Woolpit batters played well, and our bowking was ok in the middle but perhaps not of the quality those bowling in the middle are capable of. Dines came on and got Stanton with a beauty. Young Jim evans came on and bowled very well, and got two wickets one of which a very good catch by Stace on the boundary which he had initially misjudged. A final total of 117-7 would be tough but was gettable on a good wicket with a fast outfield.
Promoted to open Millions played one great shot down the ground then gently chipped the ball to midwicket, and Froggatt followed shortly to leave us in trouble at 15-2 in the 4th over. Hatcher and Leggett played sensibly but struggled to assert themselves as the rate grew, with Leggett was out for 14 in the 10th over we had 46. Aggett came in and tried so very hard but simply could not get bat on ball despite his increasingly frenzied attempts and the encouragement from the sidelines.
The Woolpit bowling was steady but their fielding keen, and better than ours. Hatcher continued to play well, and took 9 off a Bevan over to kick start the innings, but had to retire shortly afterwards. Coe tried in vain but perhaps more contact less swing may have been good, and when skipper Stace joined mexome we needed 32 off the last 2 overs.
To their credit they never gave it up, and with Mexome playing very well and finding the boundary the drama went right to the last ball, skipper Stace needed to hit it for 6 to gain legend status, sadly for us bowled and Woolpit win by 5 runs.
Coach pleased with the improvement, if only we had kept up the intensity in the field we had for the fist 6, bowled better in the middle and played with more composure, a single every ball is 6 an over!! we would have won, but Woolpit deserved victors on the night.
Onward and upward big game against Fandcy next week.
