The day began with the sun rising in the Easton. Copdock were buoyed to have allround nice guy James Wheaton, who definately isn't an old Woodbridgian. Copdock looked relatively strong, with hundreds of youngsters playing, a youth set up comparable to Ipswich.

The captain continued his relatively good tossing form, he now has almost as many toss wins as Garnham of Elmstead Market. He decided to have a bat on a traditional Wivenhoe low and slowie, reminding many players of the surface at Brightlingsea. Copdock batted first, losing Davey early; he's had as much luck as East Bergholt. James "almost as popular as Felixstowe" East came out to bat and didn't last too long before making friends and nicking off. Mark Burch and A. Gravell the only two members to make double figures came together, Burch looking particuarly good on a tough pitch to bat on, Gravell looked less fluent, reminding me of a an innings he once played against Braintree in 2006. Mark out to a cross the line wipe, as was B. Gravell, not two of the youngsters best shots. A. Gravell ran past one at a time he could have just consolidated, platform gone. It wasn't an easy pitch to start on, shown by the fact no one else made double figures, breaking Haverhill's record of highest score with only 2 players making double figures.

Tea was good, making up for the lack of changing space, good pizza, Nose was unfortunate to bite into a chocolate donut.

Copdock went out to field with the good cop bad cop combination of Gravell and East opening the bowling. Good cop lawyer C.Gravell, even offered legal advice to Wivenhoe, grumbling about rabbit holes. The good guys got off to a good start with East picking up a classic fast bowlers dismissal. Copdock & OI weren't looking too bad, bar a few fielding mishaps on the outfield, apparently they Dunmow!! It was cracking to have Gauke back bowling properly again, his weekend figures 23-3-64-6, not a bad effort after his mauling at Frinton last week. In the end Wivenhoe snuck over the line, Copdock probably 30 runs short of making a really tight game out of it. A few pleasantries were offered and that was it! My personal highlight of the game was seeing Nose nearly scold himself in the showers.

Looking the future, Wheaton was thoroughly nice throughout the day, already he's got the potential to challenge Stubbs and Jervis, though the latter has never been the same since the Coughgate debacle.
