Battisford U11 v Copdock & Old Ipswichian Cricket Club Copdock Eagles U11 on Thu 22 Jun 2023 at 6pm
Copdock & Old Ipswichian Cricket Club Won by 67 runs

Match report Another good away victory for the Copdock Eagles, making it five wins out of five at the halfway point of the season. Second in our table is Walsham, with four wins out of five, so clearly our return match with them at home on Friday 14th July is likely to be decisive.

Fielding first with a full team of eight (only the second time that I've had every player turn up at the lovely Battisford round: clearly Sat Nav is much better these days), despite Battisford reaching the (quite big) boundary nine times, we restricted them to 102, bowling with reasonable economy and a hatful of wickets and with an ever reducing number of extras and only a handful of byes and extra runs taken off wides. Captain Albie lead the way with the ball, taking 3 for 16, with wickets also for Finley, Henry, Stan and Charlie. Harry kept well again, for his second go this week, but now realises how hot it can get under the helmet for 18 overs. Stan took a great catch and the ground fielding was generally very good, although there were unfortunately a couple of overthrows and also uses of 'banned phrases' (you know which ones).

Our batting innings was excellent, with Chris (top scoring with 33 off 17 balls), captain Albie and Finley all scoring at at least a run a ball. Although runs off the bat dried up a bit after then (until Chris and Albie returned for brief stints at the end), we maintained the ultra positive approach to running and calling throughout, with the Gregg brothers in particular taking every opportunity for snaffling an extra run, taking at least a dozen byes and extra runs off wide balls.

All in all a good victory, played in great spirit by both teams at a lovely ground, with our hosts providing some food afterwards.

Tim

NOTE
Please note that the scores on Play-Cricket (and on the scoreboard on the night) don't include the 5 runs per wicket taken, so the margin of victory was greater than we thought at the time.
