Ipswich & East Suffolk v Copdock & Old Ipswichian Cricket Club 2nd XI on Sat 13 May 2017 at 1pm
Copdock & Old Ipswichian Cricket Club Won by 8 wickets

Match report After last weeks successful trip to East Bergholt the two-saders were again on the road, this time taking the short trip from the idyllic surrounds of the Copdock Oval to the less so Chantry park. Having visited Clacton in week 1 this was a step up, indeed there was a toilet seat, if not toilet paper available - most making do with Ironfists socks. With Hugh keeping his place in the firsts, Wootton was asked to make his first appearance of the season and after ensuring that two umpires were present readily agreed. Also included for a season debut was Dan Leggett to offer another option with the ball and some middle order batting. On a pitch that screamed bat first, Ironfist won the fourth toss on the bounce and duly decided to bowl.

Perhaps still thinking about his decision Ironfist served up a wide juicy long hop to start but otherwise the scoring rate was relatively sedate on a pitch that certainly played better than it looked and came on to the bat nicely. Jenkin soon replaced Ironfist and initially kept things quiet while Nose went about his business at the other end. Finding late swing and some occasional seam movement Beak proved too much for the IES top order, rattling through both openers and quickly adding 3, 4 and when Chaundhary was bowled backing away he had picked up 5 with only 30 on the board. Soon this got even better for Flopdock as Nose added another and at 39 for 6 things looked bleak for IES. Realising that their backs were against the wall IES captain Mildenhall began to counter attack. Helped by some wayward stuff from the usually metronomic Jenkin the scoreboard started rattling over. As IES tucked into Jenkin's buffet, Nose also started to get some tap and Ironfist was forced to turn to East JR and Leggett to get things back on track putting an end to Nose's quest for all 10. Mildenhall flew past 60 but soon became a victim of a slower one from East as Wootton whipped the bails off and it was left to Leggett to get the final wicket at the third time of asking with a full swinging delivery, having seen spills from Wootton (tough), Reuben (not tough) previously.

A decent spread at tea was followed by Ironfist rolling back the years by re-uniting the Sharpe/Jenkin opening partnership. Jenkin, perhaps remembering the Reuben running soon feigned injury so that runs only came in boundaries. Fortunately there were plenty of them. Both Sharpe and Jenko cashing in on anything back of a length and when there was some width on offer Jenkin crashed one over point for six! Jenkin eventually fell for 30 and despite Percy perishing a few balls later for 0 (to go with his drop earlier) there was little sign of a wobble as Wonderboy Hollis joined Sharpe and soon both were again peppering the boundary rope. The winning runs came up at better than a run a ball, Reg remaining undefeated at Chantry Park again with 41 and Reubs with 60 to his name. Another comprehensive victory, the winbus rolls on.
