Scorecard

Halstead v Copdock & Old Ipswichian Cricket Club 1st XI on Sat 12 Jul 2008 at 1pm
Copdock & Old Ipswichian Cricket Club Lost by 50 runs (incomplete scorecard)

Match report Copdock Travelled to the mighty Halstead on Saturday on a great run of 6 wins on the bounce! Eek was missing after Max arrived mid-week and Burch was unavailable after a week on the bog. Nell was also unavailable after losing his grandfather on Friday night, our thoughts go out to him.

So in came the Cat and Pope and the youngest side ever to grace the field for Copdock hit the road.

With the captain for the day, barely capable of talking, due to a works night out on Friday ( great planning that ) it looked as though Copdock would be up against things. But Nose won the toss and Halstead were inserted. Things got off to a good start ( of sorts ) as Nose and Deon started really well. However with his score on just 1, Spatcher was rushed by a Nose short delivery and top edged the ball straight up to Lewis Catlow and survived as a simple chance went down. On the plus side, Lewis put this behind him and had a great day in the field after this, which is a testament to his mental toughness. This would have only cost him 3 if Archie had then caught Spatch 3 runs later at slip, he didn’t!

However Copdock continued to bowl well, Noses first 11 over went for 15, 6 of these being an absolute monster over midwicket! Deon also bowled well and after 20 overs Halstead had 43.

Tea was taken early, due to rain and Halstead got up to 187-6 with Spatcher scoring a hundred. Copdock, with their strong batting line up should be able to chase that down…..?

Well the reply started brightly with 27 off the first 4 in reply. Then Copdock were 29-4. Archie hit a long hop to point. Jenko got a dubious LBW, Reuben bowled for a duck and Howard left a straight one!

Nose and Chris Swallow went about the recovery and put on 80 in decent time and just as Halstead had given up the game, Nose played all round a half volley and was bowled. 118-5, well what happened next was dreadful. The side was bowled out for 135 and lost by 52.

A really disappointing day for the side…. However, results went are way and we are actually top by more than at the start of play!

A really big game on Sat against Frinton.

Also, As Alan Hansen said…… “ You don’t win anything with Kids “.

The future’s Bright, the future’s Copdock!
