Copdock & Old Ipswichian Cricket Club 1st XI v Sudbury on Sat 05 Sep 2009 at 12.30pm
Copdock & Old Ipswichian Cricket Club Won by 1 run

Match report Champions Elect !!

The mighty Sudbury came to the home of cricket this weekend to take on the Copdock Crusaders, who only needed 4 points to secure their first Championship since the Clubs merged back in 1996. In fact the club haven’t picked up the pennant since 1988.

The only way that copdock could really fail would be to bat first and get bowled out cheaply. So Eek won the toss again ( he’s only lost one all season ) and decided to bat.

Archie failed a late fitness test, which gave Sharpe a chance to play in the championship game….

Copdock took to the field knowing that 175 would hand them the league…. Ben got off to a flyer but fell for 29 and is still 1 runs short of 1000…. He’s left a very tricky match at IES to make it to 1000.

Everybody got a decent start but failed to go on…. Chris got 22 and passed 600 runs, Nose got 20 and passed 300, Sharpe got 16 and passed 50 for the season….. Nelly helped the total to 193-7 with a much needed 50. In typical Copdock fashion the league winning runs came from 4 byes!

I think we got caught up in the 175 figure as we failed to push on passed the 200 mark!

So with the league won the Crusaders enjoyed their tea and took to the field to defend their modest total of 193.

Eek took Nose off after his 3 overs had cost 9 runs…. Nose was livid! Pidge took a wicket in his first over, so Eek seemed happy!

In our worst fielding performance of the season we dropped Chunky twice and the Biting Batch was dropped by Teeth! A real dolly…. Also as we were getting stuck into Batch, made us all look pretty stupid!

Sudbury looked to be coasting to victory by a huge margin…. Eek had no option but to turn to pace, and Nose rejoined the attack. This did the trick as Batch was superbly caught by Raj at midwicket for 39!

Sudbury didn’t have too much strength in depth… but needed only 45 from the last 14 overs with 7 wickets left…….

Ben joined the attack and started picking up wickets, Pidge bowled the other end and kept things tight…. Sudbury continued to lose wickets and the final over arrived with 4 needed for victory with 2 wickets left. And Ben bowling….

The last ball arrived….2 to win with 2 wickets left….

Burchy dropped a catch behind … but managed to gather the ball and claimed a stumping ( Run out ) and Ben finished with 5 wickets!!!!

The league was won!

Sudbury were superb on the day…… Al Younger got us a jug….. Almost made us feel bad about getting stuck into him….almost!

A great season is nearly over!

I’ve heard that on the night out… Teeth got a love bite and Jenko pulled one of Nat’s friends!!!!!

Love…

As always the Future’s Bright, the future’s Copdock
