Copdock & Old Ipswichian Cricket Club Won By 9 runs

Match report Copdock U15’s dig deep to squeeze home by 9 runs. Another hot day and scorched outfield saw Copdock lose the toss and put into bat. Will and Tom opened but after chasing a wide one first ball Tom found himself back in the hutch contemplating what might have been. Arthur and Will then dug in a started to find the boundary regularly. Arthur and Dan Norman both fell in quick succession and Will retired not out 51 - another majestic innings it must be said. Kajeai and Lewis had a mix up and a good old throw saw Lewis run out and the collapse was starting to happen, or so we thought. Kajeai and Varun then put together a very timely partnership of 59 and steadied the ship. Copdock eventually finishing on 162-7 which looked more than competitive.

In reply Harpenden batted aggressively and kept up with the rate. James bowled Hubbard and the energy went back up a notch again. To their credit the Harpenden batters kept fighting and producing decent partnerships to keep themselves in touch. A few costly overs were now starting to hurt us and pressure was building although the ground fielding was excellent throughout so it was purely a case of the bowlers needing to hit better lengths and stop the flow of boundaries. Tom then preceded to bowl with maturity way beyond his years and kill the run chase. Figures of 3-16 off 4 overs as an off spinner in a T20 game outstanding! A great team performance coupled with guts and determination saw us home and off to the regionals next week. Fantastic day well done lads you deserve it.
