Match report Dog Poo Puddle

After 63 days without rain, we arrived in the serene settings of a cricket pitch in the parkland gardens of Chantry House, Edmund Daudy's countryside abode. These days it isn't quite the same. Owing to the fact the groundman had been on holiday the covers had been left off and the pitch enjoyed a good soaking on Thursday and Friday, the mighty Scoobs left the world class facilities of the Copdock Oval to arrive at an uncovered sticky dog. This is a club on the brink.

At the time of the toss the hosts had 10 and Captain East won the toss and decided to have a bowl. It was soaked on top, but owing to the weather quite firm underneath, the result was a pitch that was slow, but not dangerous.

Harry Bailey nicked off the wise old Bloomfield "early doors" with the edge only just carrying to the blocker Thomas who managed to grab on with his lardy hands. At the other end Gunderwood bowled an array of full tosses, but managed to only go for 10 in three overs on a green pudding, very odd cricket really. He bowled one length ball which was despatched over his head for a maximum.

The game then turned at this point when the little chubster Felix Ward was brought into the attack. Ward has developed into an allrounder this season and been dependable with both bat and ball. On this day, the pudding suited Ward who swung the ball away consistantly and nibbled the ball off the seam. Debenham was accounted for with the away swing, nip back combo, as was Smith. It made for a nightmare for Lardhands behind the stumps who did his best to stop it. On one occasion the ball canonned off his pad into the cover prompting cries of "Good Hit" from the onlooking supporters. That or they were leaving another needle in the field of dreams.

Ward rattled through the middle order with the ball of the century to dismiss the dangerous Mildenhall, the ball swung in and then hit the seam from full of a length and passed the groping bat of Mildenhall. Takes the p*ss really.

East and Gauke picked up some cheapies between them and IEasyS were bowled out for 129. Runs on the board against the fragile chasers that are Flopdock.

Cousins was dismissed early, which would have been enough to prompt Burch to start the lawnmower. Jenkins calmed proceedings with the shot du jour, caressing an effortless drive down the ground. Jenkin's promotion to the top of the order looked a masterstroke from the evil twin until he was dismissed trying to turn a Mildenhall delivery to leg, LBW.

Some vintage Snorey dabs set a platform for a Mlambo blitz as he hit cover drives, pulls and his pads scoring 68* from 51 to win the game against relegation rivals IES before enjoying a nice quiet night at home.

The Great Escape is on.
