Copdock & Old Ipswichian Cricket Club Won by 4 wickets

Match report
The Winbus rolled into Woolpit with no sign of the promised rain. Following last weeks thumping of Sudbury, Ironfist had made three changes with Extra Travel, Gravell and Ferg replacing Donald, Harry and Wonderboy Hollis. The warm-up was a mixed affair, the old uns wrapping up victory courtesy of a cool Kaarl finish. Gravell probably to blame for the young uns, perhaps still reeling from the sandwich debacle earlier in the day. Gravell was so upset that he sat out the rest of the fielding, head in hands, wiping the tears away/dabbing at his runny nose with a tissue. News that made the rest of us weep was also soon on the way as Ironfist confirmed yet another lost toss and Flopdock were to field.

On a flat, if used, wicket Copdock tried in vain for a breakthrough. Nose and Ironfist found little swing, accept off the middle of the bat towards the boundary. Ironfist pulled himself off and ET took over but there was not much changed. ET fashioned a chance that was spilt at point but otherwise the first 15 overs passed with little alarm. Even an ET breakthrough as he teased an edge from the Woolpit opener did little to stem the flow. At drinks Woolpit were 100 for 1 off 22 and Ironfist read the riot act. East JR brought a modicum of control after drinks as the rate was dragged back somewhat and when Hoppy caught Deeley off East Snr for a well made 88 the wheels were beginning to come off for Woolpit. It was a confident snare from Hoppy, so much so that he didn't even bother to use his hands! Eventually Woolpit limped to 189 for 5 probably 30 or 40 runs shy of par and short of the 250 they looked on course for.

The response from Flopdock began in frantic fashion. Reuben and Archie looking to crash the ball too all places. Reuben, shortly after amassing his 5000th Copdock run, lobbed a loose drive to mid-off and next ball run machine Storey was trudging the long, long way back

Gravell was undeterred, or perhaps hadn't noticed the dismissals as he mixed play and misses with sublime boundaries. However when he fell to a thin edge and was followed by Ferg who'd made his way to a graceful 19 before cutting the off spinner to slip, Flopdock looked set up for a textbook choke. As Hoppy chopped on and Lionheart Nose joined Teeth at the crease next in Jenko was keeping spirits high by regaling everyone with 'Famous Copdock Chokes' since 2000. There were so many that Gravell was soon curled up asleep at his feet. Unaware of the torment Nose and Teeth began forming a partnership. Thomas got an early life at slip but was soon on driving and pulling with authority and even Nose was nurdling through the infield. As the runs began to flow Woolpit wrung the changes but could not coax a mistake by either of the Flopdock batters. By the time Nose chipped to mid off for 44 the game was up. He and Thomas had put on 93 and put the game out of sight. Fittingly Thomas smashed the winning runs in the next over finishing on 64*.

Ultimately not our best performance with the ball, in the field or with the bat but some key performances at key times got us over the line. Ironfist is saving up for Trongs!

Sombrero - Thomas. Excellent undefeated half century

Jazz - Archie, for the sandwiches, the warm up and the sleeping

Blooper - Reuben, dropped chance!
