Match report Result of Copdock Vs Frinton – Old London Road

A pretty blunt report this week, as I feel it is needed. For the second week in a row the side has collapsed.

After rain of biblical proportions on Saturday morning Jonesy and his team had worked a miracle ( in keeping with the biblical theme ) in making a playable pitch. The eagerness of both sides helped hugely and a 45 over game was to start at 2pm.

Copdock lost the toss and were unsurprisingly inserted on a dampish, but firm, good cricket wicket. Copdock were missing Archie Gravell, off with his boyfriend in Brighton and Jenko, who was off on another holiday, exploring his sexuality to the full. Eek was missing again but should return next week, after the birth of baby Max. So Nose was in charge of proceedings after last weeks debacle at Halstead.

Before the boys went out to bat we had a long chat about making strides to improve partnerships and taking responsibility for things yourself. Batting time was imperitive and stressed as much as possible.

SO after 25 mins of play are Saturday and match was effectively over. Poor batting, poor shot selection and crazy running about sums it up. At 20 – 4 things were not going as planned. We simply can’t expect Chris to bale us out each week and as Nose didn’t get any either the middle order just fell apart. 20-4 became 80-8 and thanks to Chris making 46 not out and a couple of lusty blows from Deon, who made 20 the score finished on 120 all out. Deon’s huge wipe to end the innings was typical of
Copdock’s inability to bat with any sort of mental aptitude. 120 was about 100 short, on what was a decent track. 6 LBW’s didn’t help!!

After a few harsh words at tea from Chris and Nose the boys went out to take the field and try to atone for the shocking first half performance.

Deon and Nose opened the bowling and both bowled really well. As last week the didn’t have two much luck. They did however both strike early and Frinton were 6-2. Nose bowled his first nine overs for 9 runs and Deon kept things tight and was so unlucky not to take a couple more wickets.

Try as they might Copdock couldn’t remove Moulton and the pro, although the bat was beaten numerous times. They put on 110 and saw Frinton Home by 8 wickets in 40 overs, which is a testament firstly to how to apply yourself in testing conditions and secondly how well Copdock fielded and bowled. The low point was one over from Sharpe that cost 14.

So basically we need things to improve. I’ve been in charge for two games and the performances have been pretty dire. You even start thinking that it may actually be your own fault that the team isn’t doing it as it was previously. Things must turn around next week when Eek is back as he’ll be slightly angrier than I was.

To the batters…( myself included ). You ruined not just my Saturday night, but also Heather’s… thanks.
