Another rain effected drying uncovered pitch at Notcutts another game where winning the toss was going to be the decider.

Easton won the toss and not surprisingly put us in. Like us Easton had strengthened their side with 4 of the first team replacing 4 of their younger regulars who had been "promoted" now that their first were safe in Div 2. Consequently we were faced with an attack that was probably better than the seconds usually face in Div 4. We started brightly with Dutch and Ethan applying themselves to the conditions, putting on 32 before both nicking off in quick succession to some very fine controlled swing bowling. Wickets fell regularly with just Harry Harvey and Nick showing any further resistance and were all out in the 31st over for 96.
Despite the score it was clear from the conversation over tea that Easton were worried about the pitch and were not expecting life to be easy when batting.
This proved to be true as Thomas nicked off to Ethan in the third over only for a regulation catch to be put down at first slip. Over the next few overs a further 3 regulation chances went down one behind the stumps, one at mid off and one at second slip, and a really sharp chance at gully, however this too should have been taken. In the meantime Ethan had noticed that the only way to get wickets was to hit them and two superb yorkers had seen first off stump and then middle stump go cartwheeling. 12 overs bowled and it should have been 27 for 7 not 27 for 2.
Ethan continued with his spell (supported well by Harry, Harry and Charlie) bowling three more of the Easton top order, but with another 3 chances getting spilled 96 was never going to be enough.
Ethan ended up with figures of 12.4 overs 5 maidens 33 for 5, all bowled in a fine demonstration of controlled swing bowling.
So a game between two sides that on paper at least had no right to be playing in division 8, though low scoring, could have gone either way, if only those catches had been taken.
