Copdock & Old Ipswichian Cricket Club 2nd XI v Felixstowe on Sat 13 Sep 2014 at 12.30pm
Copdock & Old Ipswichian Cricket Club Won by 8 wickets

Match report Following the crushing defeat of their relegation threatened ‘noisy neighbours’ and, after a week off, the 2s returned to action for their final game of the season, welcoming fellow promotion contenders Felixstowe to the Oval. After their surprising defeat to Halstead the week before it was a straight fight for third place with the outside possibility of sneaking into 2nd if East Bergholt slipped up at Tuddenham.
Once again there had been much pre match activity on social media with evidence, once again, of treachery, by club president Holland, deciding that it would be great to get some of the more impressionable players bladdered on a night out in the smoke just hours before they took to the field. The local gutter press had a field day reporting on this.
Team selection had been difficult with regulars Ashwin, Sexy and Ethan unavailable, injury accounting for Captain Mattwareing and two Hugos both working but the side still looked strong.
Match day arrived with the usual poor timekeeping of the majority of the side, no doubt instigated by the president, but despite this the team had a good warm up although there was further blatant cheating by the young’uns in the hand ball game.
Felixstowe captain Collins won the toss and decided to bat first on the M1, however, his side were soon in trouble as the opening attack of Cooky and Huge knocked over the first three wickets with very few on the scoreboard. After the seamers had finished it was the John Eek show as the experienced off spinner destroyed the opposition taking 7/23 from 13 overs and leaving them in tatters at 86 all out. Clive and Jenko also bowled well but the plaudits must surely go to Eek, bowling despite suffering a suspected pre match heart attack.
Tea, courtesy of Butch, was taken outside, in the late summer sunshine although with time drawing close to begin our innings the side scattered to all points as Gunder sought umpires and a scorer. Houdini Wootton had obviously made detailed plans at officiating avoidance – even young son Lucas refused to divulge his whereabouts ! Unfortunately for the escapologist his plans failed miserably with the fall of the first wicket in the very first over as he had come out from his bunker and was in prime position to replace Dutch !
The run chase itself was fairly straight forward, despite the loss of two wickets, as St Archie and Huge saw the 2s comfortably home with over 30 overs to spare.
So a very good 20 point win against a side we had tied with earlier in the season. Unfortunately news later reached us from West Suffolk that Bergholt had successfully chased down the Tuddenham total, therefore sealing 2nd place.
A few beers and a barbeque afterwards ensured the 2s season ended on a high note still with hopes of potential promotion, subject to Frintons playoff match for entry to the EAPL. A 12 game unbeaten run took us to the brink of automatic promotion but early season form and being thwarted by the weather on a couple of vital occasions are what have left us possibly just short.
We will find out in a few days time ………………
