Match report

Flopdock travelled to the quaint setting of Great Bromley on the back of nine undefeated weekends and with the hosts bottom of the table hopes were high of continuing the run, despite the loss of Archie Gravell claiming he had 'work to do' - more likely he was out partying into the small hours but Jonny 'Suffolk' Rice returned.

Club President Holland was so confident of success he elected not to bring the warm up gear and after an in depth discussions on the available facilities a cursory kick about replaced the usual warm up which Ironfist Gunderwood normally insists upon. Holland had either forgotten the fixture earlier in the season when Bromley ran out victorious at the Oval or this was another attempt at sabotage following on from the 'Felixstowe Fiasco' - Poor Little Richard Sexton hasn't been the same since then and no-one has seen Felix.

Having won the toss (meaning his day was largely finished) Gunders inserted the opposition and the match began in a flurry of activity. The first two overs saw Ashwin warned for running down the wicket, Hugh bowl the opposition skipper with a little a beauty and have a convincing appeal to pick up a second rejected. Copdock lost concentration after the incident and bowled poorly as the hosts advanced to 70 for 1 at drinks, albeit on a decent batting wicket and small outfield (including a large tree). The introduction of spin twins East and Clive had begun to slow the run rate but Bromley could still be happy with their position. A dressing down from 'Ironfist' at drinks appeared to the trick and the wickets began to tumble, East picking up six quick ones, including a Holland tumble and a Gunders grab at slip. Clive continued to twirl away at the other end and eventually removed the obdurate Allam as the innings closed, 'Great' Bromley 113 all out and batting only 40.5 overs. Things could have been worse for the hosts had Copdock had more fortune with the decisions or caught better (a howler from Ironfist the highlight), though as we sipped our cups of tea (which contrary to tweets were available, and pleasant) Copdock could be feeling confident of half the job being done.

Rice and Sharpe opened up with Wooton avoiding the first umpiring stint by going to sit in the car (clever, very clever). After a couple of accurate overs from Wareing (brother of our very own Matt) both set about the Bromley attack with gay abandon. Reuben fell for 25 but Ricey continued to swing along merrily, being particularly severe on the spin of Holyman including a towering six into the upper echelons of the tress at midwicket. Victory arrived as soon as the 18th over meaning that Copdock remain in the promotion hunt as the run stretches to 10 and Bromley look consigned to relegation.
