Copdock & Old Ipswichian Cricket Club 1st XI v Cambridge Granta on Sat 31 May 2014 at 11am
Copdock & Old Ipswichian Cricket Club Lost by 23 runs

Match report The First Team were at home against Cambridge Granta on Saturday, a huge mention must go out to Martin Taylor and his team for getting a pitch ready after the heavy rain during the week.

We found ourselves in second place in the league and with swardeston not playing this meant we had a real chance to close the gap.

James East won the toss again and inserted Granta on what was a fairly green track, but with the sun out it was drying rapidly.

Tom Rash and the captain bowled well to start with and really put pressure on the Granta line up. By bowling tightly, James bowled 15 overs for only 15 runs, and not bowling bad balls the pressure reaped rewards. Tom got two early wickets and James also picked up a couple.

James Hodgkinson playing his first premiere league game also picked up a couple of wickets including the dangerous Granta captain Shaun Park. With Chris Swallow and Tom rash ( returning ) cleaning up the tail Granta had been blown away for only 85! A tremendous effort all round.

Perhaps expecting an easy stroll to victory Copdock began the chase and lost a couple of early wickets and the score was 14-2, with Hodge and Archie back in the hutch. Jed and Martin Cull took the score on to 40-2 before the wheels really fell off. the fact that twice we lost two wickets in two balls ( James East and Tom Rash both bowled first ball ) really gave the momentum to Granta, something that Copdock couldn't wrestle back. Copdock were bowled out for only 59.

A really disappointing effort, especially given the experience we have in abundance in the side. A very quiet changing room after the game, we didn't dwell too much on the batting effort, as we all know what happened. We need a bit more back bone.

However, we are still there or there abouts and we have a big game this weekend Vs Mallards.

the future is still bright, the future's still Copdock.
