Cambridge Granta v Copdock & Old Ipswichian Cricket Club 1st XI on Sat 19 May 2012 at 11am
Match was Drawn

Match report The first XI faced their toughest challenge of the new season this weekend as they travelled to reigning champions Cambridge Granta.

The warm up was one by the olden’s again, although Eek jumped ship and played with the younger members having thought an easy victory would follow. Unfortunately Ricey was at fault for both goals and Nose and Pidge led the senior team to victory. Eek lost his first ever warm up.

On a muggy and dark morning Copdock lost the toss and were unsurprisingly asked to bat on a damp, green, hard track. The ball hooped around early on and after doing all the hard work, Kinga had, in his words, “ a brain Fart “ and left a straight one... out LBW.

Nelly followed LBW and Copdock were 20-2. Jed and Dibbo then batted excellently through to Lunch and led the recovery. Jed was finally out LBW after getting past 50. He blamed the penalty shoot-out happening a mile away on the far side of the ground. Pidge also commented that this was frowned upon and should not happen again.

Christi and Pidge pushed the scoring rate along as Copdock searched for extra batting points and Dibbo continued on his way to a fine 80-odd. Both Christi and Pidge fell playing shots for 30 ish.

Ricey had a great day, as he was stumped first ball. He was at least 3 yards down the track.

Jenko – promoted to 9, got a duck too.

Nose has the highest strike rate of the innings, a mind boggling 128/00... power hitting including a 4. Thomas ran him out deliberately off the last ball. Copdock posted 245-8. A decent score on a tricky track, although it had calmed down a lot and slowed down.

Copdock took to the field and Christi took an early wicket as Eek claimed the first of three good catches at slip. Granta never really tried to chase Copdock’s score and although Copdock rung the changes with the bowlers they couldn’t break through on the now sluggish track.

At times the fielding lacked it’s normal high standards, the team lacked it’s normal dynamitic side and Copdock seemed to just go through the motions and possible fall apart a bit, as Granta dug in. This was slightly disappointing and we would not want to see this again. Granta finished 165-4 and although a winning Draw for The Crusaders, a long cold and frankly disappointing day all round.

Highlights of the day:

Jed and Dibbo’s batting.
Eek’s slip catching
Hugh’s boundary bowling ( excellent )

Lowlights:
Bowling and fielding
Cold
Attitudes
Penalty shoot-outs

The future’s still bright, the future’s still Copdock
