Scorecard

Clacton-On-Sea v Copdock & Old Ipswichian Cricket Club Sunday XI on Sun 05 Sep 2010 at 12.30pm
Copdock & Old Ipswichian Cricket Club Lost by 7 wickets

Match report 10 men lose.

In sport, bar exceptions of monumental poor individual performance (Robert Green, Gareth Southgate and David Batty) failure often rests on the shoulders of those in charge. Leadership is always the first to be blamed. So when Copdock turned up to the mighty Clacton with ten, it was always going to be a long day. Many thanks to those who made the extra effort to say no to playing, its nice to have support in this job. Cowdrey filled in the 10th spot, remarkable his games he's played this year have been away at Frinton, Maldon and Clacton thanks to everyone at the club who's tried really hard to play.

The Captain's highlight of the day was winning his fourth toss in a row and having another bat. Ashwin missed a straight one early to everyone's disappointment, its one thing watching him bat, but having to listen to 30 overs worth of him and Hugo bickering just shouldn't happen. During these 30 overs, Gravell, A and Burch, M put on 133 runs. Excellent. At times though, the left arm spin of Hussain was allowed to dominate. Gravell, H replaced Burch after he was sharply stumped. Though he started slowly Gravell, H began to pick the pace up, Archie was well caught at Long on, bring the captain to the crease who scored 13 off 5 balls, including a six back over the pros head. Hugo was then joined by Oliver in a new all rounders role. The pair took Copdock to 212.

After a truly delightful selection of ham, egg or cheese sandwiches, cheesey balls and golden fish and mini rolls... Copdock went out to field with a slightly new ball. Burton had the keeper-opening batsman caught at cover, with the captain taking one out of the sun running back over his head. Turned and Masekela put on a sizeable partnership before Turner was bowled before Gravell just prior to drinks. Brown and Masekela put on another sizeabe partnership to kill the game. Brown eventually nicked off. Thomas bowled poorly, leaking runs.

Copdock lost, heavily. And of course it's the captains fault, he clearly didn't try enough people to play, he only asked 126. Anyone who had a complaint to make about it please take up the job next year.
Thanks go to HM Prison Clacton for their warm hospitality and generous facilities. It makes it quite clear to me why anyone would want to leave a club to play for Clacton.
Rant over.
