Match report An excellent team performance got the 2nd XI season back on track with a fine win over Mistley.

On the best day of the summer so far the Mistley ground looked tremendous, and on a decent looking pitch Mistley inevitably won the toss and chose to bat first. The opening bowlers of Underwood and Catchpole kept things tight early on, with Stevie Catch producing the unbelievable figures of 11 overs 1 for 15!!

However, although the scoring rate was kept in check Mistley always had wickets in hand and therefore gave themselves every opportunity to increase the run rate in the second half of the innings. Codpock were further hindered with the "experienced" Gravell pulling up lame after just 2 deliveries!! Nonetheless all the Copdock bowlers performed well with the spin duo of Druitt and Gauke taking 5 wickets between them.

Mistley finished on 187 for 8 which was probably about a par score - maybe 10-15 runs short. However, considering Copdock's batting displays in the previous couple of games 187 looked a long way off at tea.

Fortunately we were able to welcome back Martin Taylor to the top of the order after a two year absence. He and Jamie Green got the innings off to a great start. The scoreboard continually ticking over with both of them playing fluently.

Soggy was eventually bowled for an excellent 34 (the highlight of which was an unbelievable 6 over extra cover). This brought Ted Baker to the crease and he and Jamie continued to bat confidentially.

Jamie Green brought up his first 50 for the 2nds and was finally dismissed for a brilliant 60. It was a superb innings from the 15 year old and was the foundation for our successful run chase. Well played Jamie.

When Jamie was out we need about 70 of 14 runs. After much discussion Underwood was sent in to see if could provide the couple of "big" overs that would secure victory... Brealey like tactical genius??? NO!! He was out second ball for 0!!

This brought the Copdock Strangler to the crease. Covered in white sun screen (presumably in attempt to disguise his appearance), he had clearly decide Mistley II's were going to be his next "victim". One huge six combined with sensible batting meant that Allerton and Ted saw us home with an over to spare.

Ted finished on a brilliant 68 not out. Excellent placement, good running and 4 6s were the key to his innings. It was a classy knock that deserved to win any game of cricket. Officially recognised as a man of "influence" he certainly left his mark on this match...

So, 19 points secured and a morale boosting win under our belts. The challenge now is to maintain this form for the rest of the season...
