Copdock & Old Ipswichian Cricket Club Sunday XI v Frinton-on-Sea on Sun 19 Apr 2009 at 1.00pm
Copdock & Old Ipswichian Cricket Club Won by 35 runs

Match report Copdock defeat reigning champions!!

Copdock won the toss and had a bat. Openers Hair 1 and Hair 2, got us off to a solid start batting through to drinks, the pair didn't score quickly, but they set the foundation for the innings, ensuring we had wickets in hand late on. When hairs had departed for 65 and 34, it was left to Scott Harvey and the Captain to increase the run rate, the latter of which playing some thoroughly agricultural shots, including a pull to third man. Thomas eventually out trying to guide a middle and leg stump ball to third man, bowled. Shorten batted the innings out in style with Harvey.

Copdock took the field, with the bold decision of giving Underwood the new rock, bowling uphill and into a mighty light breeze, he even managed to swing the first delivery! Cook and Underwood were getting Copdock off to a steady start before Underwood somehow coaxed young Frinton batsman Foakes into playing across the line and giving a leading edge to Gravell at cover. After Cook and Underwood, it was time for the Cat, refreshed after a day and a half in the score box (thanks!) he proceeded to get walloped in his first 2 overs, but after that he settled and managed to snare Frinton's Kiwi, trying to cut a ball not quite there to be cut, edged to Thomas, OUT! Sasha ward also chipped in with one of the cheapest dismissals ever, a green looking Frinton youngster playing all round a straight knee high full bunger!! Cat managed to take the wicket of the worlds worst player of spin, (Chris Swallow even thinks he's rubbish!) stumped, having been hit over his head the ball before. With the game in the balance there was what could have been a turning point in the game. With Chairman Gauke dropping quite possibly the easiest caught and bowled chance ever! Somehow falling over his own feet and making it look like an attempted dive, although some spectators claim they saw both feet get off the ground! However this was largely irrelevant as Gunderwood took out Frinton's middle order and with that the man of the match award (sorry no champagne or cheque). Gunderwood finished with career best PDQ Prem league figures of 4-25 off 10, with an astonishing 4 maidens! The chairman must also be congratulated on a good set of 10 overs for 35, but it must be made clear that he didn't turn one ball! A great start to the season and onwards to the mighty Wiv (who don't have DeWett either!)
