Frinton-on-Sea v Copdock & Old Ipswichian Cricket Club 3rd XI on Sun 20 Sep 2009 at 12.30pm
Copdock & Old Ipswichian Cricket Club Won by 6 wickets

Match report On a sunny Sunday, the Copdock Crusaders marched on to the beautiful lush field of Frinton for the final game of the season.

With Copdock bowling first on a green top, Seekers and Stevie Catch opened well with Seekers taking a couple of wickets, one a sharp catch in the midrift by Gaukey at slip. Cat came on from the bottom end and bowled well without reward, whilst stand-in skipper Gunderwood took the key wicket, with keeper James Burch getting under a skier. The Frinton innings ran out of steam from then on, with Chairman Gauke taking 4 wickets towards the end. Stevie Catch came back into the attack and bowled tightly (and unluckily) once again. Copdock required under 4 an over in their reply, on what was turning out to be a belter.

The Crusaders' innings got of to a bizarre start, with Butch barging into Cuffy during a fairly straightforward single in the first over - Smith Run Out 0 without facing a ball! From this bad start Jon and Hugo struck a 70 run partnership, with Cuffy displaying some awesome hitting down the ground - sixes over the sightscreen every other over! Despite the unfortunate legside dismissal of Gravell, Cuff continued to belt every bowler that was brought into the attack, with a strike rate of 200 - until he reached 96, then it took 20 more deliveries to reach three figures! Having reached his 100 Cuff celebrated by smashing the very next ball for possibly the largest of his 10 sixes..He finished on a brutal 117 not out. It was a simply phenomenal display of hitting.

Copdock, with 20 overs to spare, finished the season in style, Seekers hitting the last runs of the year after cameos from Burch Jr and Chezza.

A fine game in the sun in a fine setting, and Cuffy's terrific ton capped a fine year for the club. Thanks go to Jamie for captaining once again, and to Graham and Boulter for standing in occasionally. Overall, a job well done!

L Catlow.
