Copdock & Old Ipswichian Cricket Club Won By 5 Wickets

Match report Copdock Obliterate Champions Elect.

I write this report from the sidelines, having hoped to watch a well spirited game of cricket. Copdock fielded first and Clacton (Stuck and all!) got off to a flier. 30-0 off 4. It was when the "experienced"(old) campaigner and First Team Winner, Gunderwood, had Stuck plumb in front of all three, the umpire just had to give it! Even the square leg umpire said it was out. OUT. A couple more break throughs followed and the introduction of the Cat's spin prooved hard to get away, the experience of being a First Team Winner no doubt helped the Cat. The Cat only got three of his wickets through tremendously sharp keeping from Burch, he was being likened to his father and First Team Winner Andrew Burch. Clacton all out for 166 on a flat pitch offering a smidgeon to the spinners.

After tea the experienced Gunderwood and the Dynamic Boughton opened up. Gunderwood, thinking he was James East, First Team Winner, did his best to upset as many people as possible whilst he was out there. After trying to schlog most balls, he finally got out slog sweeping. The bowler gave him a good send off. Mark Burch, First Team Winner, came and went fairly quickly bowled through the gate. This brought to the crease James Burch, hot off a career best 48, he made it a weekend to remember for the Burch Family, Andy having been heroic the day before, James was heroic Sunday. He finished on 70 very good runs. Lad. Having given out a bit of chirp early on in the day, he more than showed he was good enough to give it, take note Andy... Burch almost saw it through, but was out trying to hit a six to win it, trying to beat his Father's career sixes record. The game finished in well spirited cricumstances, with Gunder mediating all things around him. Thats what you learn in the force!
It was an excellent Victory, with Cherry and Boughton providing good support for Burch.

A tremendous weekend for the Club, The first team won the league (have i mentioned that yet?) and the 3's beat the league champions. The U13's won their league a few weeks back now. Oh and I think the Two's won yesterday!
