Copdock & Old Ipswichian Cricket Club Won by 5 wickets

Match report Copdock Vs Exning 49’ers

Copdock travelled to the mighty Ning on Saturday in another First Vs Second clash in two counties division one, knowing that a win would give them some breathing space at the top of the table!

Eek won the toss and inserted Ning on a blisteringly hot day…. The bowlers were very happy with that decision! However, with such a strong, long batting line up chasing does make sense!

The Frenchman and Nose both picked up and early wicket and then Ning started to get away! Normally Copdock’s spin twins would then come on a tie things up, but Ning had thought long and hard about things and had put in a 49 pace boundary on one side to try and stop that happening. Twice on the boundary, Nelly managed to stop a single!

Eek took the lead and bowled with the small leg side boundary and did a good job! Pidge spun his web at the other end and bowled an excellent spell picking up five wickets as the Ning imploded from 130-4 to 161 all out. Eek came back into the attack to pick up the last two wickets in one over! Sickening!

The highlight of the fielding display ( which was back to Copdock’s best ) was a great catch from Froogy at short mid off to dismiss Troffer! But Comedy idiot moment and Hat man next week much surely go to Burchy for his geriatric comedy run out balls up!!! Something like the 100 meters relay as he struggled to pass Ben the baton, when the stumps were actually closer!

So the Good guys were left 162 to chase to win, with a small ( sorry, Tiny ) boundary one side on a 250 + wicket! Should be plain sailing!!!???? Especially as Jerv hit his second ball for six over extra cover, I love Jerv!

Well wickets fell all too often as First Archie was LBW, then Jerv was caught trying to hit over the top, Then Pidge’s strange innings ended when caught doing the same ( he came off and said he didn’t feel right in the head???? The worst excuse I’ve heard in years!!!! ). Then Nelly hit a long hop straight up and was caught 15 yards away from where he hit the ball ( on the boundary ) and Copdock were 50-4… All too often we seem to get into these positions…. With Nose going to the crease having not batted for 3 weeks it meant everything lay on the Frenchman. Ben batted superbly and smashed his way to 77 to take all the pressure off Nose in a partnership of 90 odd which basically won the day for Copdock. When Ben was finally out Copdock only needed 20 to win. Jenko scored 15 in quick time and let Nose hit the winning boundary and 20 points secured. Copdock look a half decent side and have now been top since the very first day of the season! This victory also probably puts pay to any lingering hopes Exning had….. Great day!!!

The future’s bright… the future’s Copdpock
