Match report
IPSWICH & EAST " SUF-FOLKED " By COPDOCK

IES were welcomed to the home of cricket, the Copdock oval, this weekend just gone. It was a local derby and a glorious day for cricket. The weather was hot and even though Rainman was in the side, not a cloud was visable in the serene summer sky.

The only black cloud on proceedings was that Sharpe had somehow wormed his way back into the side, apparently this was due to his strong performance scoring last week!

The kids were missing as they had a school trip to Colchester Zoo, so Pope, Rice and the underperforming Sharpe joined the ranks.

Eek won the toss and had no hesitation in batting first, although the visiting captain would probably have bowled anyway with a muggy atmosphere suggesting the new nut may hoop about!

Jervis, the world’s nicest man was again allowed to open, even after Sharpe had fixed a duck for him last week. This move proved to be an Eek masterstroke ( however Nose will take all the glory, as he persuaded him to let him open up again ).

So Jerv and the girlfriend stealer Jenko ( He’s too close Burchy, he’s too close ) opened up and face the formidable Driver and Mildenhall. Tom, I like your girlfriend, Jenkin didn’t last too long, as after smashing a boundary, was wrapped on the pads and given out LBW. The umpire clearly didn’t realise that with his lack of bravery there was no way on God’s earth he could ever be in line. But Out was the decision and Jenko’s average now looks similar to that of Reuben’s. ( Poor ).

This only meant that Copdock Run Machine and new ladies man France strode to the wicket. With Two hundreds in the last two games behind him ( although we’ve had a word with the league and last week’s certainly doesn’t count ) he was full of confidence. Well Jerv and the Frenchman smashed it all over the place. Jerv kept popping the ball over mid-off and mid-on…. Ben hit every other ball for four, banishing the painful memories of the disgraceful start to his Copdock career at home to Exning weeks ago.

They put on 226 in rapid time, before Jerv was out bored! We also noticed he only batted like this as his wife came to watch…. Funny how he was out as soon as Nelly started chatting to her…. I think we’re missing the actual story there… no doubt, in true Eastenders style, the truth will out!!!!

Pidge was out for a quick 14 ( average buster…hahahahaha ) and Nelly finished 7 not out and has had his pads on for 70 overs over two weeks and faced 10 balls!!! Well worth the trip from London!

The Good guys finished on 283-4, as ben was out off the last ball. The batting is starting to click!!

IES looked a well worn side at tea and gave us a giggle when they came out to bat as Glassford and Debbo opened up!

They did manage to smash anything Nose pitched up and got to 52 for the first wicket… Nose did hit Debbo right in the Jatchcrackers, which raised a smile!

As is now the way at Copdock, with it being a dreadfully spinner friendly track ( how the poor seamers in the team are so hard done by is just so unfair ) Eek turned to spin. And in turn ( see what I did there?? ) they turned the game. Pidge took two quick wickets and then Eek joined the party by taking out the IES run scoring powerhouse of Glassford, Sproats and Leech.

Sproats was caught in the exact spot he was dropped by Nose last year by Jonny, Ishant Sharma, Rice. The ball went for six in height as Ricey circled below, like a starved dingo, before it arrowed downwards, gathering pace and speeding towards him. Ricey claspsed the ball and held it aloft in his hands, like the head of a fallen foe, as his team mates charged towards him in celebration… Reuben Sharpe, where are you now!!!!!

The Spirit of IES was broken, the game was up. Jenko, Pidge and Eek finished with 3 wickets each and Popey took one! The highlight, after Ricey’s catch was Nelly bowling an over and shouting “ Well bowled AD “ after it!!! Strange!!!!

So, in summary, a great win. The batting looks far more solid, the fielding – led by Ricey – was back to it’s best ( apart from Popey at long on ) and the spin bowling looks as good as ever! Nose clearly needs overs under his belt, so 4 here didn’t help! But a win on Saturday against Exning will give the side a very decent gap over the chasing pack!!!

The future’s bright, the future’s Copdock!
