Match report "FROG" MARCH TO VICTORY - Ben Batters Mildenhall

Well what a hell of a game this was……

Lovely day and a packed crowd saw Mildenhall take on Copdock at the London road oval! Copdock still without an overseas player. As they don’t agree with the whole overseas players in the league situation and are ploughing on without one, won the toss and decided to have a bowl. Nelly was missing as he was in Egypt and the Ipswich school boys were away at a Jelly and Ice cream party. Sasha was missing as he was still too upset to play after Burchy made him cry last week at Coggeshall.

Ben and Nose opened the bowling…. Nose looks completely out of sorts and needs overs under his belt. What would have helped is if a simple catch chipped up to Ricey first ball had been caught. However Ricey ran round it 5 times and then put it down. To be fair it went up miles…The batsman then took 25 off Nose’s next two overs… cheers Ricey. Luckily Nose bowled two straight balls and picked up two wickets. Ben bowled his usual nagging line and length, but it took the introduction of the spin twins to drag Copdock back into the match. Nose’s bad day continued as he was dreadful in the field and although Copdock caught well, the fielding standards slipped slightly again. Chris bowled really well and deserved his 5 wickets…. Mildenhall should have got 250+, but ended up on 208-9.

Sharpe after his run of big scores was promoted to open up with Jenko, they both managed 0 as Copdock were 8-2. Ben France, dreadfully short of Runs this week, with 100 and 80 for Suffolk in the week came in a 3 and him and Jerv put on 90 runs quickly. Jerv was surprisingly caught at long off for 34 and wickets fell all too often around Ben, who batted serenely at the other end. When Popey was out for 24 the score was 180-8 with Burch and eek left in the hutch. Burchy and Ben took the score to 198-9, when Burchy was bounced out. That left Copdock needing 11 to win and Ben 5 short of 100. Ben went through to an excellent hundred, super knock and now resigns Jenko’s last 100 for the club to the annals of history. Eek was on strike with the scores level….he pushed into the off side and the bolted through for the single and the win.

This is the sort of game the Copdock Chokers would have normally lost… so a great win… we are still top, but need to bowl, bat and field better…. We can’t rely on Ben and Chris to score all our runs… people need to put their hands up and work harder… I suggest netting helps!!!!

The future’s bright….the future’s Copdock!
