Match report The U15s arrived at Mildenhall, expecting a wet evening, to find glorious sunshine greeting them. The toss was lost and Copdock were inserted.
The Mildenhall bowlers started well, trapping Hugo Gravell LBW for 5 and nicking off Scott Harvey for 4, but Sasha Ward (50 retired) and James Wheaton (15) steadied the ship. Mildenhall's 2nd string were not as tidy; however, the unlucky Mark Burch played on for 3 before Ethan Wright (12), George Court (6), Adam Secret (7 N.O.) and The Cat (31 N.O.) accelerated to a totally respectable final score of 156.
A swift team talk, from Big Dave and Little Andy, followed and Ethan and Sasha exploded into the Mildenhall batters taking an early wicket each. Spin followed and the excellent, dirty, slow left-armers Catlow and Richards took two wickets apiece. Their wickets came from a great catch from Hugo Gravell, his second of the match and two stumpings from the Captain behind the stumps Scott Harvey. Stuart Ward bowled a good steadying over and Secers ran in well from the Pavillion end taking one wicket. Mark Burch looked sharo in the field all day and his run out of Mildenhall's star batter was no more than he deserved. Ethan finished off the show, with a yorker onto No 8's big toe and castling the No 11. Mildenhall All Out for 100.
This victory was two years in the making and it shows the value of a wholehearted team performance, with some outstanding individual displays.
The next round is against Cambridge Granta on Sunday 13th July.
