Copdock & Old Ipswichian Cricket Club Copdock Cardinals U11 v Easton on Wed 20 Jun 2018 at 6pm
Copdock & Old Ipswichian Cricket Club Won By 7 wickets

Match report On a very hot and sunny evening, at Copdock Cricket Club, the Copdock Cardinals lost the toss and were put into the field.

The Cardinals, playing with only 10 men, bowled well generally throughout the innings, with Isaac Humberstone bowling his 3 overs for 21 and James Fishenden bowling really well, bowling his 3 overs for just 10 runs and taking the key wicket of Easton’s opening bat, who also plays for Suffolk, who was brilliantly caught by Isaac’s at point for 23, and you know what the old saying says, catches win matches, then there was some good bowling from Ollie Cannon bowling his 3 overs for 22 and then some really good bowling from Aashay Deole, as he bowled his 3 overs for just 11 runs and took 1 wicket as well, then in to the attack came Connor Holdcroft, who bowled a brilliant spell of 3 overs for 15 runs, but he also took 4 wickets, with all 4 of his wickets being clean bowled, he was also well supported by the other remaining bowlers, with skipper Jevon Maynard bowling 1 over for 6 runs, Sachit Senthilnathan bowling 1 over for 4 runs and Ptolemy Van Den Brink Budgen bowling his 1 over for 9 runs, and at the end of Easton’s 18 overs, the Cardinals had restricted them to 104 for 6, so a very good bowling performance, with the only area still to tighten up on, being the 11 wides bowled. The Cardinals ground fielding was generally good too, but a couple of catches were put down, so some practice to be worked on in that area of the game over the coming weeks too, Louis Cannon also kept wicket tidily, with only 4 byes being conceded.

The Cardinals started their innings well, with Louis and Aashay putting on 57 for the first wicket, before Louis retired on 22 and then Aashay was out shortly after for a well-made 28, then a couple of further wickets fell quickly, with Edward Townrow being caught for 3 and Jevon being bowled for 1, this then brought together Connor and Isaac and they both batted well putting on 30 runs to win the game for the Cardinals, with Connor finishing 22 not out and Isaac 15 not out, the Cardinals reached their target in the 15th over and finished on 107-3.

So a good team performance from the Cardinals and with only ten men as well, and whilst there is still lots to work and improve on, there are lots of noticeable improvements from all, as we progress through the season.

Thank you to both Louis and Ollie’s dad, for scoring, and to Edward’s dad, for umpiring, when we were batting.

Man of the match goes to Connor for his excellent all round performance with both bat and ball.
