Copdock & Old Ipswichian Cricket Club Lost by 7 runs

Match report On Sunday morning, the Copdock Cardinals played a practise match against the Copdock Challengers, the Cardinals won the toss and batted first.

Cardinals batted well throughout their innings, with strong batting performances from Shaanjeai Tharaneetharan, 25 retired, Lucas Howard, 25 retired, and Hugo Lloyd, 27 retired and then with Harrison Strand 11 not out and Samuel Slatter 19 not out, with both hitting some very good shots towards the end of the innings, including Slatter hitting a massive 6, the Cardinals reached a creditable 139-3 at the end of their eighteen overs, there was also some good bowling from the Challengers, with Isaac Humberstone, Jevon Maynard and Aashay Deole taking one wicket each, there was also some accurate bowling from Jake Thompson, who bowled his two overs for only 6 runs.

When the Challengers batted, there was some strong batting from all, and in particular from Maynard who retired for 25, Algie Anderson who retired for 30, and Louis Hembry who finished 16 not out, all batting very well, the Cardinals bowling was not at its best, but there was some really good bowling from Archie Magnus, who bowled his three overs for only 10 runs and took two wickets as well, there was also a wicket each for Henry Clark and James Fishenden, including a very good catch from Howard too, and then the last two overs of the Challengers innings, which were bowled by Slatter and Tharaneetharan, helped pull the game back in the Cardinals control, as they only went for 3 runs, and 2 runs, respectively, this helped massively in turning a game that the Cardinals looked like losing, into a close win in the end instead.

At the end of the Challengers 18 overs, they reached 132-4, meaning the Cardinals won the game by 7 runs, this was a very useful match for all the players and coaches involved and it was good to see so many of the Challengers performing so well and pushing for inclusion into the Cardinals squad. For the Cardinals it was good to get more match practice and see a much improved batting performance, but there is still some hard work needed over the weeks ahead, on the bowling and the fielding and in some areas of the batting too.
