Felixstowe and Young Corinthians v Copdock & Old Ipswichian Cricket Club Copdock Cardinals U11 on Wed 21 Jun 2017 at 1800
Copdock & Old Ipswichian Cricket Club Won by 19 runs

Match report On a very hot Wednesday evening, at Felixstowe Cricket Club, the Copdock Cardinals won the toss and batted first.

Copdock batted well in the early part of their innings, with useful contributions from Oliver Carr, 12, Conor Holdcroft, 13, Dylan Patel, 13, & Louis Hembry, 7, and reached 54-4 after their first ten overs, there was then some very good batting from Shaanjeai Tharaneetharan 25 retired and Samuel Slatter 26 retired, that helped boost the final Cardinals total to 120-6, at the end of their 20 overs.

When Felixstowe batted, their opening bat Alex batted well, before retiring for 26, however Copdock used nine bowlers throughout the Felixstowe innings and all nine kept a much better accurate line and length, than had been shown in previous games, which helped keep the Felixstowe batsmen under control and with also some good fielding taking place, including a couple of runouts, and some good catching also from the Cardinals, with a special mention for Patel for is excellent catch at backward point, plus a catch for Carr behind the stumps and a couple of caught and bowleds, from Slatter and Tharaneetharan respectively, this kept the Cardinals on top throughout. With Slatter bowling very well and taking two wickets, Tharaneetharan, also bowling well and taking two wickets, including bowling a maiden over during his spell, Holdcroft, and Freddie Foyster both chipped in by taking one wicket each and whilst not taking any wickets, Hembry, Harrison Strand, Tom King, Issac Humberstone, and Patel all bowled their overs well, helping the team to keep good control.

At the end of Felixstowe’s 20 overs, they reached 101-8, meaning the Cardinals won the game by 19 runs, this win was made extra special as Felixstowe were unbeaten so far this season and the Cardinals had to play the game with only 10 players. The overall team spirit and the effort put in by all the Cardinal players was very good and pleasing to see and we look forward to taking this momentum into next Wednesday’s home game.

Samuel Slatter takes the Cardinals man of the match performance, for his strong all round display, closely followed by captain Shaanjeai Tharaneetharan for his all round performance also.
