Copdock & Old Ipswichian Cricket Club

Scorecard

Sudbury v Copdock & Old Ipswichian Cricket Club Under 15 Boys Players 2024 on Sun 28 May 2017 at 10am
Copdock & Old Ipswichian Cricket Club Won by 51 runs

Match report A much more competitive return match at sunny Sudbury, although the boys still cruised to victory based on sheer weight of runs (18 boundaries vs. 11) and sharper fielding (no byes or additional runs taken off wides, well done Ewan), even though we bowled more wides and took fewer wickets; Sam Paisley excepted, who easily returned the best bowling figures - 3Overs/1Maiden/1Run/2Wickets.

Sudbury won the toss and decided to bat first. The first two Sudbury batters both retired not out after their allotted 20 balls faced, with Harrison Smith playing particularly well (33,runs, including 5 fours and a six) and they reached a score of 57 after eight overs. However, with George Quinton bowling spin from one end and Sam Paisley bowling full and straight (although from a greatly reduced run-up, appropriate to this level of cricket and at coach's request) from the other end, Sudbury only added 5 more to their total over the next four overs and never really recovered after that. George's figures were only spoilt by a couple of wides and a four off a full toss (not a good delivery for a spinner!). Special mention must also go to reluctant bowler Rocco Hembrey who took a superb LBW wicket and Felix Gardner who also bowled fairly miserly. Overall, a very pleasing performance from the coach's perspective (although a few more wickets and a lot fewer wides might actually get me breaking into a grimace), with great organisation of the bowlers and fielders from captain Sam Paisley.

A very manageable total of 94 was chased down at pace, with Ben Hunt eager to regain his 20 ball record (his previous record of 46 having been surpassed earlier in the week by Ollie Stace, scoring a massive 54 in a Copdock vs Copdock 'friendly'). He finished with a creditable 35, which was a very good effort with an outfield that required a bit of oomph to reach the boundary and was well backed up by Chris Dunning who nearly saw out his 20 balls. There then followed an 'interesting' period of play with Rocco Hembrey very unluckily getting bowled off a rising ball that hit shoulder, helmet grille, then wicket and a typically brief Ewan Green cameo performance (boundary, boundary, hopeless swipe, bowled to a straight one). Normal service was resumed with Sam Paisley reaching 32 unbeaten off his 20 balls, ably backed up by Felix Gardner.

Overall, a competent performance from the Copdock boys, doing many things well, although we probably need more competitive matches to help us develop further.

Thanks to Bethany Quinton for immaculate scoring and to her dad Jim who lead the warm-up whilst I agreed the playing rules with the opposition.
