Copford v Copdock & Old Ipswichian Cricket Club 2nd XI on Sat 27 May 2017 at 1pm
Copdock & Old Ipswichian Cricket Club Won by 62 runs

Match report Fresh off 3 successive victories the two-saders travelled into the wiles of Essex to take on Copford, who themselves would be in confident form having dispatched table toppers Coggleshall the previous weekend. In searing heat, following a tropical storm, Reg and Kaarl Snorey were so worried about Hugh's potential warm up they refused to arrive on time and instead came up with the same 'accident on the Orwell Bridge' story. Reg even had to put together some nonsense about getting a bat from the other side of town. They needn't have worried however, as Hugh introduce walking football which unsurprising played into the old 'uns hands.

Ironfist was meanwhile losing the toss but to the delight of the team was asked to bat. Reuben and Arch were soon off an running with Reuben narrowly escaping a run out via the massive tree situated at cover. Reuben was soon out in more conventional fashion, bowled pulling a half volley. Run machine Snorey also soon trudged back into the hutch and it was left to Thomas and Gravell to rebuild. 50 quick runs in 8 overs followed before Thomas got over excited and swept neither up nor down and was pouched at short fine leg. Nose (thin noted the opposition scorer) was his replacement. Gravell and Nose soon had the board ticking along nicely, Gravell bring up and excellent half century with a mighty 6 and looked in supreme touch, indeed 50 of his first 52 were in boundaries. Nose looked far less convincing but was able to plink the ball into the gaps and even eventually managed a maximum of his own as whilst the ball didn't cross the ropes it did clip an over hanging branch for his first ever Div 2 6.

When Gravell fell for a superlative 84, Hollis kept the pressure up and East found some fluency too. The score flew past 200 before East (73) and Reg 'Hot Chile Pepper' Hollis fell (38). Jenkin added some late order lusty hitting and over bananas at tea a total of 264 felt strong and very defendable. Things didn't however, go all to plan as Copford began their innings. As East struggled for rythmn Sinclair got stuck in, trashing the ball regularly through and over mid wicket. A run out and a good spell from Leggett which brought about the wicket of Bell gave Copdock some hope as did a few tight Jenkin overs but by 30 overs things looked prelious with Sinclair approaching 100 rapidly having tucked into the Jenkin buffet and been supported by overseas star Ahern. With Copford needing only 100 of the last 15 overs Ironfist turned to 'the chuckle brothers' to regain control and some tight overs at both ends saw the pressure get to Ahern and latterly Sinclair. Both falling to indifferent shots after excellent innings off the bowling of Nose. The fielding, which was good throughout remained strong and every chance that the bowlers created was snaffled in the outfield and soon East JR was mopping up the last wicket and Copford fell 62 runs short.

A good performance with the bat and good under pressure in the second half in the field.

Sombrero - Nose, his first ever.
Strawberry - Ironfist, for squealing like a girl during 'anklegate' and for having two very old bananas stashed in his bag for no known reason.
