Match report Copdock Ladies arrived at Dellwood Avenue knowing that only a victory by a margin of 10 clear points would see them claim the title over rivals and today's opposition Felixstowe.
The home side drew first blood and decided to bowl first on a pitch which had remained uncovered during the overnight rain. This meant that a youthful Copdock side had to post a competitive total without losing wickets (points). The usual pair of Locke and Kelly kept out some excellent Felixstowe bowling whilst dispatching anything loose that was offered. The loss of Locke to a run out shortly after drinks brought Georgia Davis to the crease, Davis assessed the conditions and bowling before upping the run rate with Kelly, Kelly's late wicket meant that Copdock closed their innings 113-2.
Felixstowe wasted no time in their assault on this total, 30 runs came from the first 3 overs, but at a cost, Openers Norman and Ellis fell to Cousins and Quinton respectively, Easton's catch to take Norman was from the top draw as it was still rising as she took it at mid-wicket. Wickets fell regularly and the run rate dropped as an experienced home side struggled to form a partnership, Anna Hamblins leg spin proving a real handful for all concerned. Felixstowe waited util the very last over with 20 required to open their shoulders, they fell six runs short, 107-7
After many changes during the winter, regular training and team spirit has seen the youngest team in the league (by a long way) with an average age of 16 win the league at the first time of asking. Well done Ladies, enjoy your success, hard work pays off and you all deserve it. Jim
