Match report Life is all about taking opportunities, however they arise. With the Crusaders having their normal 10 at kick off time, young 9 year old Toby Hurst was "persuaded" to play. He went on to have a debut to remember in his first hard ball game, taking a wicket with his second ball, and giving a display of ground fielding that outshone the vast majority of his older peers, well done Toby.
Batting first we put in a curious display, Harry and Jack, whilst both well below their best added 59 for the first wicket before Harry was caught at deep midwicket, and at the half way point we had 75, the second half was simply horrible as we failed to hit the ball, run singles or seemingly have any plan to keep the scoreboard ticking, and added a paltry 44 in the second 10 overs which included a number of extras, thus a final total of 119 on fast outfield left the game wide open.
Tom and Charles started well for us bowling tightly, then Harry got the first of two good run outs with strong well directed throws, Lewis had a first over he would wish to forget, but showed great character to bowl 3 good ones on the bounce with only 5 coming over his 3 overs!.
Oli game on and kept up his record of taking wickets, and brother Toby took a wicket second ball thanks to a good catch by Jim. Sadly our ground fielding left much to be desired with at least 4 fours going through fielders on the boundary and us turning ones into twos by being slow to the ball.
A final margin of 22 was about right and we did some good things but much to learn particularly about being positive and having plans with our batting in the second 10, and our commitment, enthusiasm and technique in the field.
So Crusaders remain unbeaten, 2 games next week which will decide the league title..
