Match report A fantastic effort by the U19's against Mildenhall in the semi-final with an extremely young team. With 4 key players unavailable due to University and work commitments, Copdock went to Mildenhall with a very inexperienced side with 3 players making their U19 debuts. A slow pitch meant it was an easy decision to bowl first.
Atkins bowl yet again with control whilst also getting turn and bounce from the pitch which caught Marston by surprise on occasions. After some tight bowling, Mildenhall were only 29 for 1 off 5 overs. Frog took an excellent caught and bowled as the ball stuck in the pitch and Marston was through with his shot too quickly. Beaumont then began to tee off before being dropped off Flo's excellent bowling. He retired with a powerful 50 meaning Tom Allen came to the crease and after knocking the bowling around he began to tee off, dropped on 42 before going on to also retire on 50. Davis and Loveday continued to look to score but some very good bowling by Flo and Olly meant that the run rate slowed down and Davis fell to a wonder catch by Sam, making his t20 debut. A bit of width by older brother meant that Davis smoked the ball to cover where Sam at full stretch to his left took a stunning catch. Loveday was bowled in the 19th over and Ferg finished off the bowling to limit Mildenhall to 181, over par but they could have got at least 200 at one point.
Atkins and our own Marston opened the batting, both of who at 14 years old have performed superbly all season (the future is very bright for these two and also the club!) Jacob fell early whereas Atkins adjusted well to the bowling, rather than looking to force the ball, he started to use the pace and work the ball around. Archie came to the crease after Mexome was bowled, knowing he needed 5 sixes to be equal 1st in the national league for 6's. After what appeared to be pulled hamstring suffered when running a quick single, he hadn't hit a 6 yet. So in pure Dave Searle style, Archie proceeded to hit 4 sixes in a row before another couple of boundaries before being bowled by fellow Joey, Clark.
Skip came to the crease and looked to find the boundary but only found the middle of the bat once on his 6 down the ground! Other batsman came and went struggling with the pace of the Mildenhall bowlers. Williams was excellently caught on the boundary by Jon Allen in a Maxwell-esque style. 181 too many but if our 4 missing players had been available, we would have chased 181 down.
Mildenhall subsequently beat Hadleigh in the Final to yet again win a tournament/final that they've hosted!!
Many thanks to all that played and also many thanks to Elliot who has sacrificed many hours to watch/coach us for our matches. Next year a return to finals day is well within reach, the squad has lots of talented players.
