Match report A good game of cricket which ultimately came down to the amount of wides bowled. Copdock bowling 33 wides compared to Hadleigh's 25.

Hadleigh got off to a good start despite losing Manthorpe to a horrible long-hop by Toryn. Bad balls seem to get wickets in 20/20. Shanks and Handley built a solid partnership, quickly punishing anything loose. Hadleigh reached 100 off 9 overs and a score of 200 looked likely. Some tight bowling by Ferg and Matt meant that the scoring dried up after Handley retired on 50. Matt bowled superbly including 2 wickets in 2 balls, one of the victims being Newbigging which pleased Matt a lot! Gravell returned to bowl 2 very good death overs limiting Hadleigh to 169. However, this total could have been a lot less if 33 wides weren't bowled.

With the light fading fast, Manthorpe tore through the top order with many people saying that it was too dark to be bowling that fast. Handley then came onto bowl and Archie was well caught on the boundary rope by Shanks. Jacob and Luke soon began to rebuild. Jacob batted sensibly for his 24, not looking to do anything stupid, whereas Luke looked to shift the momentum back to Copdock. Luke batted brilliantly for someone who hasn't played much cricket recently, retiring on 50 off 35 balls. But ultimately Hadleigh bowled less wides and bowled with better control. So Copdock fell 18 runs short which was a shame as 170 was a very get-able target.

If we hadn't had bowled as many wides, we would have won the match comfortably, so its something to consider for the next game at Hadleigh on Friday and then Sudbury at home on Monday.
