Match report A fantastic track, fast outfield and short boundary meant it was also liable to be a high scoring game and so it proved.

Having lost the toss Copdock were forced to field first and after a steady start the Coggeshall batsmen soon took advantage of conditions. Despite an excellent opening spell from "Victor" Underwood, a first wicket partnership of 139 laid the foundation for an imposting total of 236. Druitt and Banham both bowled well and, considering Ted Baker was forced to open the bowling, Copdock did well to restrict their hosts to this total.

The Copdock reply began positively, and after 16 overs we had reached 64 for 2. At this stage the winnning post seemed a long way off but a brilliant partnership of 106 in 19 overs between Adam Baker (82) and Tom Davey (65) really turned the game around. They both batted with authority and class, and it was a pleasure to watch them at work, well done guys!! When Ted was eventually out knackered (I think his bowling took it out of him!!), Davy continued to strike the ball cleanly until he eventually mis-timed one to Mid On. This left the score on 193 for 4 with 8 overs remaining. It was then down to the experienced Banham (28 not out), ably supported by the even more experienced Underwood (16 not out), to finish the game off with 2 overs to spare.

This victory really proved how far the Club has come this season. We had 20 senior players unavailable this weekend and in previous years this would have completely decimated the 2s. However, today we were still able to pick a strong team good enough to win a top of the table clash (the 1s also picked up an easy 20 points).

Perhaps the most noticeable absentee today was the 2nd XI vice captain - Jon Cuff. Having missed a game a few weeks ago because he wanted to go for a stroll with his friends, this week he decided attending a barbecue with his mother was more important than helping our push for promotion!! As an active member of the Dale Winton and Graham Norton Fan Clubs, surely his claims that he "just finds them funny" must now be questioned????

Many of those unavailable today will be back over the next couple of weeks or so and some tough decisions on team selection will have to be made. It seems harsh to change a winning team, and Kevin Banham has officially approached the Club Chairman requesting a discplinary hearing be held about Cuff's complete lack of commitment. The outcome of this will announced in due course, but suffice to say those of you who have Cuff in their Fantasy Team would be wise to make a quick transfer!!!

So, we have now won our last 6 games and at the half way point of the season we proudly stand top of the table. The momentum is with us (even if Cuff is not), and we must now push on to achieve promotion. An exciting few weeks awaits...

The future is bright, the future is not Cuff!!
