Copdock & Old Ipswichian Cricket Club 2nd XI v Achilles on Sat 17 May 2008 at 2pm
Copdock & Old Ipswichian Cricket Club Won by 46 runs

Match report Hooray, we won. The 2nd XI turned in a good performance with both ball and bat this week and on the winning trail we are. Gaukey lost the toss or should I say ‘tosser’ again and we batted first. The weather looked gloomy and in a reduced over innings we managed to chalk up a healthy 183 for 5. Sharpe knocked 53, although maybe it should have been less with some controversy over a potential caught behind decision not given. I was at square leg and it was about out as Status Quo (if they were ever in), never mind I would never consider Reuben to be a cheat. The Banham 23, Baker 26 and Cuff 63no middle order trio proved effective. Cuff not really gifted with an opportunity to run out Banham, giggled as Banham’s mistimed drive floated air bound to mid off, off he went, hee hee hee.

In the field we were better. A total of 7 out of 8 catches were held. All the bowlers worked hard, Druitt’s 4 for 52 being the pick of the figures although Banham was his reliable self with 2 for 36. The moment of the match and possibly so far this season was the tantrum by our very own Underwood. Having to bowl with a disfigured old ball and achieving little swing or seam, he was rightly taken off. He chuntered to himself as he meandered to fine leg. And then later on proceeded to perform a rendition of Swan Lake on the fine leg boundary as a ball scuttled under his foot for four. ‘Undies’ considering this to be perfectly acceptable, was utterly disgraced when he was asked to take to the in field.

Nevertheless fielding with 10 and a pre pubescent 8 yr old we managed to snub out our opponents vein attempt to beat our score and secured our first win. Well done boys.

It’s worthy of note that Undies was still considerably grumpy the following day. As we travelled to High Roding for the village cup fixture he remained in argumentative mode. If I had given him the winning lottery ticket I still think he would have called me something quite rude.

During this match incidentally was quote so far of the season. As S Gauke dived to his right to stop a ball of his own bowling, T Davey said loudly, “Did he just fall off a bar stool”. Excellent well done Tom, it made me laugh anyway.
