Match report Report Vs Coggeshall

Well the game was played at Ipswich School. A welcome home coming for much of the side. With the hugely dissapointing defeat at the hands of the scummy IES last week, Nose's dropped catch crucial, any realistic chances of winning the league were all but gone. However there was much to play for as defeating the mighty Cogg could well enhance their chances of being relegated....many people would clearly up their performance level with this being the case... I certainly pray for victory Friday night.

Well preparation went badly... No Jervis, Burch, Nel, Carolus, Gravell, Barratt, Gregg, well the list went on, but I've given up trying to remember the names.... Sharpe was back Though after his 93 on Reuben Sharpe day.

Nose took Jenko out the night before the game and finally let him go to bed after 15 sambuka's at 2.45am. Safe to say he felt rubbish on the morning of the game.

The mighty Cogg won the toss and elected to bowl suprisingly on a flat track and a hot day... a decision they may regret. The hugely hungover Jenko and space cadet Sharpe opened up and the first shock was Reuben batting through the first over. However he soon departed trying to pull a half volley for 1. he will now struggle to catch Nose in the run scoring charts. Scott Harvey then joined Jenko and was targeted by some pretty strong sledging and some short stuff....he coped really well and made 23 before being caught at slip off the unauthidox left arm spin of Blackwell. Chris, I've palyed at Lords and field like Gavin Driver, was then given out LBW again for one, not had many decent umpiring decisions recently Chris... I think now umpires know we rely on him to get the bulk of our runs they give him out straight away!!!!

So Nose joined Jenko and the two of them oozing lager from their pores carried the score through to 175... Jenko batted superbly and sheltered Nose from much of the strike...he played some superb strokes and rattled up the first teams first 100 of the season.. an excellent 109, highlighted by some powerful drives and two huge hooked 6's. Nose got to 40 before he ran himself out, stupidly with 8 overs to go.

Some good lower order striking from Thomas and Rice meant that the team, although out with 1 over to go posted 228. A respectable score and a decent chase required by the Cogg. The seaming Blackwell... not sure which one as there were loads of them picked up 6 wickets for 66 from 11 overs and deserved these as the search for runs hit fever pitch.

Cogg came out to bat and were kept quiet by Nose and Sasha Ward, who for 15 bowled really well and possess a decent bumper... he bowled the 5 overs he was allowed for only 11 and continues to impress all concerned...Nose, now leading the attack and a crap opening bowler according to the IES website, bowled pretty well in patches and removed the first 3 Cogg batsmen all caught behind by the impressive Thomas. With the score at 20-3 this was not the start Cogg wanted.. however they still had the hard hitting Stockton at the crease...!

After the initial burst of real pace..Eek turned to spin. Chris bowled 5 maidens on the bounce at Snapper, who looked woefully out of nick. Then Chris snapped up one of the Blackwells and Eek yet another... Cogg were then struggling, however their Ozzy came in and went nuts... hitting Chris for a couple of big sixes and Eek too... Sharpey run under one at deep midwicket that didn't help Chris' mood. However Chris got his revenge when Jonny Rice took a screamer at long on to remove him and the game looked up, even with Snapper still in! Eek turned back to Nose and he then took two wickets in two balls to remove snapper and the final Blackwell... Snapper wasn't to happy abot the caught behind decision.. but the huge crack it left in his bat suggested he hit the cover of it! OUT. Cogg finished 57 short and Copdock played pretty well with a very young side. 4 15 year olds, all who contributed positively. Nose was the oldest on show at 30. So james east finished with 5-50 from 16. Chris took 2 more and Eek 3. Hugh Thomas kept beautifully and desrved his 6 catches. All 5 of Nose's victims were caught behind. The fielding was electric. A pleasure to play in this game... this is what we need going forward... However with some of the churping going around, may I just appologise if not the best example was set...Got a bit caught up in it... I don't swear at 15 year olds..so got a bit dragged into defending them...sorry!

The future IS bright, the future IS Copdock.
